We waited a week and hoped the weather would cooperate, which it did for only one day. We did find a small flock that actually responded to the call and came in for a blast...

Congrats! Bonus points on bringing the young nimrods along!!

Took my first and only Merriams tom outside of Chewelah, Washington back around the turn of the millennium. I recall trophy images with a similar pose. Fond memories of a hunting partner now passed, a good hunt, a beautiful bird and then we were off to town to a great Mexican resturant to celebrate.

Thanks for posting.

Not much in hunting more pure fun than turkey hunting. I helped the Nebraska Game and Parks guys round up some merriams to swap for other wild fish and game. They told me those we rounded up were going to Montana. The area we collected from was the original seeding area for the first ones transplanted in Nebraska. The strain is still very pure in that part of the state. (NW). I have only harvested one other bird in the state, and it was a hybrid in Eastern NE

Nice. Are the Montana turkeys full of lice in the spring like the ones here in Wyo?

Amazing birds and great pictures - these turkeys around here have been wearing me out. Glad you were able to connect.
