Just saw your offer - thanks, but i found one on EBAY, complete, rough, but in keeping condition to my rifle. Now I have a flat cheek commercial replacement stock to do something with. It is drilled for a short stock bolt, and I have a bolt to go with it, if anyone needs.

I have two as well,
A 1950 vintage model 99 in .300 Savage with schnable forend,
and a 1915 vintage model 1899 takedown in .250-3000, also has a schnable which I love...both of these have curved levers and buttstocks....the 1899 has an F model Weaver on it and is missing it's peep sight assy although there is a cutout for it...the standard rear sight is in place on the rear of bbl...cheers!

Got another survivor - 1899A, 25" to the receiver ring, rifle butt, straight grip, 30-30. S/N 197xx. Lots of wear, and someone 'bubba'd' the butt. Took off the crescent and trimmed the horns. I'm going to try to repair it (got a crescent plate) as it has a fairly decent aftermarket checkering, with forearm to match.
Have not fired it yet, the cocking indicator doesn't come up. Need to get inside and see why. Question - how does the firing pin attach to the hammer rod? Drawing that I found looks like threaded rather than pinned, and all I find for sale are pinned. also looks like it has a relief to interface with the cocking indicator ? I have not seen any firing pin assy parts for the early model bolt. I got a bolt that is stripped of everything but the cocking indicator, so I have e spare bit if needed.
It does cock and release the firing pin (click), but I want to see what is not working as designed before I shoot it. I am looking to find a 'smith in this area who is familiar with the 1899, but Savages are not very common here in NW Arkansas.
Thanks for any information.

Just now read this thread . Not a collector but for years have always owned and hunted with a 99 of some version. Art Savage was a genius. His savages are way ahead of the times. My favorite model is the F, have it in 250 savage and 300 sav. Scoped the 250 put a period correct aperture sight on the 300, took it to Victoria’s Island Canada and took muskox, handloader 165 gr rem corelocks. Have a 99h take down in 22hp, always wanted to find a high power in solid frame, curious to know if the solid frame shoots any better than a tight take down. The high power is a real challenge to hand load for. Hornady .228 70 grainers do not shoot well in mine. Other stubby 70 grains do alright. Found for plinking the old Sierra 63 gr.semi-spiizer .224 shoot pretty well, however they are near impossible to find amymore. Anyone out there have both solid frame and take down in the high power in decent enough shape to make a fair comparison as to accuracy?
