He’s a cutie. Should be able to handle everything in the uplands and the water. An aluminum curry comb will be your friend to get those hounds tongue burrs out too😁

Ha ha. That’s the exact same reaction my wife and daughters had when I got my Draht. “They’re ugly” they cried. Now they think they’re all cute. 🙄

He'll probably drive you crazy the first year or two with energy and poking his nose in everything you do. Very curious and social.
whpg should never be corrected harshly. Never ever hit one. Stern voice only. They don't like to be left alone a long time and need plenty of ecxercise and interesting training daily. Mental stimulation.
Take it slow on training some take longer than others. Take it slow on water training. remember patience.
Get some pigeons around six months and work on prey drive.

My boy "Griff", last name is Griffith, turned 6 last month and he's the love of my life! Entire family, wife and 3 grown kids love this dog to death. Youngest daughter brought home her female just over a year ago. Wish i'd been able to get this breed decades ago. At my age, it could be tough having another pup when Griff is gone. It will be a hard decision if it doesn't happen. Also, for a male he's gargantuan! Pretty sure he's 100 lbs yet the gentlest, kindest giant ever. Frickin machine on pheasants and forest grouse.

Our guy Archer is around 10 months now. Everything posted above is true. There seems to be a lot of variability in the breed and even between individual dogs from the same lines. Our guy is calmer than many, but part of that is that he gets at least one good walk a day and gets some good play time in. He wants to be involved in what you're doing all the time. If you are working on the truck, he'll be right there with you, unless you make him go somewhere else. As a puppy, he couldn't be left alone - he'd freak out and destroy things. He's getting a little better on that, but basically we try not to leave him alone. He has been great with kids, but we are pretty quick to insist that all kids treat the dog right. Anyway, he's a part of the family and sort of a riot. Flock of seagulls glamour shot....
