I've got a ton of the old percussion caps, some CCI & a bunch with some German name I can't recall. I've got a newer Knight with break barrel that was my Dad's, but I think I'll just use the old mk85

I have one that is percussion cap. Any idea where to get the 209 conversion kits?

Any particular reason why you want to change? Blackhorn 209 isn't recommended in plunger type percussion systems even if you do convert to 209s.

Just for the sake of being able to use the more reliable shotgun primers.

Got it. I've used my MK-85 since I purchased it in '92. I've always used CCI #11 caps with it and have never had an issue. I have changed the nipple to a Knight Red Hot. I've never had a hang fire when hunting. I always snap a couple caps through it before loading.

I have two, one stainless Camo, one stainless black. Both are .45 caliber. 2 pellets and a 245 grain powerbelt. Both shoot really well. I have tried the 3 pellet load but accuracy suffered, along with my shoulder.

Price check on a Mk85 stainless that I'm considering buying. Appears to be in great shape and has a leopold 2x7x33 scope. What would a fair price be for the rifle?

Ive have a stainless .50 and a blued .54 since the early 90's. The 50 was used for years in Idaho with 300 grn Hornady xtp's and black sabots for elk and deer, during dedicated muzzleloader hunts. Since the law changed no more sabots, now powerbelts are used. Loads were both 100 grains of 2f black. Both wear peep sights.

MK-85 .54 cal

Anyone have any experience with the Knight 54s? There's one available at a LGS. Overall it's in decent condition (SS/lam stock) but I believe someone messed with the trigger. It's crisp and light (didn't have a gauge) but there's better than 1/4" of loose trigger travel before engages. I assume the Knight triggers lend themselves to being tuned up and some one was a little overzealous. I am new to the Knight world - are replacement triggers available? Thanks. DJB

The one in my mk85 .50 cal is adjustable. It's a light trigger so I've never messed with it

My Mk-85 came with a Timney trigger. The newer Knights were a Timney copy.

Probably figure $250 for the rifle plus $150 for the scope, so $400 plus or minus a bit.

Thanks for the information! He is asking $350. I think that seems to be a fair price.

If you end of getting it - I have replacement triggers for it.

I have the bargain basement version, the BK-92. It wears a Williams peep sight for use in CO. It's probably not worth $75 on the market, but it's a deadly son of a gun. I've killed two elk, a mule deer and a few whitetails with it. I shoot a 400 grain lead flat point Powerbelt (formerly a Black Belt before CVA got them). That big slow bullet groups inside 3" at 100 for me. If I get a decent shot at that range or closer, the animal's dead. It never misfires with No 11 caps and I can't imagine how it could be any better for this use.

I also agree with this. I used a stainless Mk85 before the use of breech loaded weapons was allowed. Mine was very accurate and the trigger was fantastic. When breech loaded weapons were allowed for primitive rifle season, I gave my Mk85 to my buddy's son to replace his muzzle-loader that was stolen (not a Knight). I have only fond memories of that muzzle-loader.
