Pretty new to the AR game and needing to get my rifle set up with a sling.

Thinking about a Magpul M-Lok QD mount for the front. Undecided on rear. Stock doesn't have the QD hole just a couple of slots for an 1 1/4" sling.

I am wondering if they make a sling with a short piece that will fit rear slots but has a disconnect feature whether a clip feature or buckle.

I like taking the sling off when on stand or when hauling the gun around in the truck.

I also don't want something left swinging and making noise when the sling has been removed so a stock w qd hole features may be in my future.

Found this adapter.

Look like it would work on the stock?

Anybody using one?

Not using that exact one but at one time I used something similar with a Magpul rail. Never had a single issue using it. I tried to stay away from the rear of my stock and I use these.

Midwest Industries Rear QD Sling Mount

I might suggest the Magpul MS4 QD Sling, converts 1 to 2 point, excellent quality. Look around and you can find the on sale under $60.

When I first got an AR and then went on to build a couple more I asked about slings and was told to get a "way of the gun" Proctor sling.

Works for me so never tried anything else. About ten gazillion folks out there promoting theirs and why you need it. One of them will surely work for you.

Here is an option that may help depending on your stock:

If you know you're going to want to remove the sling on a regular basis I'd not spend $30 for an adapter when you could spend $50-$60 on a buttstock that has what you want.

This is another option and what I have done with my EDC. I use big rubberbands or you can use medical/tear away tape and cinch your sling up when it's not in use. But if you wanna spend money on a purpose built rubber band you can:

Sky is the limit with slings but Viking Tactical is usually a good starting point:

Ferro are good too:

Buy good hardware (QD mounts) and don't let anybody talk you into a single point or any other contraption.

It's up to each shooter what they are comfortable and handy with,I don't care for the single point slings, but all the Special Ops guy's, we shoot with use single point slings, and they carry a lot more than i do. Rio7

Thanks. I get what you are saying about $ for an adapter vs a stock, will start looking to see what I like.

No single point for me, this is a hunting rifle and nothing more.

Just get the proctor sling as mentioned above. No rubber bands, detachable swivels or swivel mounts.

Check out Frank Proctors video on his sling.

Are you wanting a tactical type sling or a hang on your shoulder hunting sling?

Hunting.

Actually should have titled my thread differently. Was more about mounting options but I have learned a few things.

Then the simplest thing would be to just mount regular QD studs. The front could double as a bi-pod mount.

I’m a fan of the Proctor WOTG sling myself but there are times that a regular shoulder sling works better. If I have a pack on and my Crazy Creek chair slung over the other shoulder. The gun can hang on my shoulder and be easier to get into action.

A USGI M1 web sling is pretty good for hunting and targets. And cheap.
