so I got a line on a Merkel 47E 16 straight grip single trigger side clips nice wood ic mod factory and in new condition with box $2800 bucks Im thinking good deal?

Your Merkel could be a nice find. Make sure it's stock dimensions are suitable and find out what the bores are choked at. For some reason many have cylinder bores. Get as much information about the gun as you can. Does it have a nice wood stock? Or does it have really fantastic furniture? The price varies greatly on this model. The price also varies by who's selling them. They are not rare, they are readily available. The MSRP in 2016 was $4595.00, then Merkel discounted them to $3999. You could consider it an investment, though I don't know how large a following they have here in the states. A quick search revealed a nice 20 gauge for $3K and a 12 for $2500. I enjoy the hunt until I find the perfect match; fit, condition and price. Is it sexy enough for you?

If it fits and is choked for your needs, sounds like a good deal. I’d prefer a pistol grip, but that’s me, not you.

I had a pistol grip 47E 16 bore about 35 years ago. Liked the gun quite a lot, hunted quail and pheasant with it back then.

You may know all of this but parts for Merkel shotguns can be difficult to find in some cases and they can also be expensive. Depending on the age of the gun it would pay to know a good machinist gunsmith. I sold mine when a friend had to send his back to East Germany for repairs and it was not the easiest or quickest repair. He got the gun back in a bit over a year. I know they were modernized after unification and were later sold to a UAE company a number of years ago so parts and service may have changed for the better since my experience with the brand.

If it checks all the boxes its a good deal.

You might consider looking for a Simson. They are the same guns as the Merkels and are usually about 1/2 the Merkel prices.

I blundered into this sweet Simson that is the same gun as the Merkel 8, which is the 47E without ejectors, has extractors. It was $600.00 and is in excellent condition.

If you need ejectors the cost goes up by $1K at least.

The 16ga is the top gun.

If I liked the gun I would buy it at that price.

I think the buy at a new 47e 16 gauge straight stock single selective. 28 inch great wood in box is worth the asking price. I had an aya 453. This gun is better built. The single selective is actually functional. I never liked double triggers during the winter with gloves on

Good deal on the Merkel SLDUCK. I was looking at those for awhile including some others. Having two 16’s, the one that checked all the boxes for me was a Rizzini Aurora Gold 20 ga O/U. SST, 26.5”, ejectors, 3”, 6 lbs. Wood grade is very good though the classification system can be confusing if not downright subjective.

I bought the gun. They dont make the 47e and have transitioned to 40e. Not the same finish on gun. And at 4100 for a 40e I got a brand new 47e used but new with box. Now have yo replace my last lab Toby and go off bird hunting

You’ll love that gun. My Merkel combo gun 7x57/16 with extra 16 barrels is probably the last gun I’d ever sell.
I wouldn’t worry about parts, take care of it and it’ll go to your heirs, and to theirs.
