I have a 24" Bergara 45-70 barrel for a T/C Encore pro hunter. I would like to get this barrel threaded for a muzzle brake. My local smith that does all my work has retired. There is no other option for me locally within driving distance. Looks like I'm going to have to send it out to get the work done. My first call to a gunsmith I have used before in N.C. told me he was well over a year out and is not taking any more work. Any recommendations or help would be appreciated.

Thanks
jc

Try Jim Kobe in a Minnesota. He’s in the gunmakers guild.

I’ve had Michael Deloach (Nine Run Gun) in GA thread and fit a muzzle brake to an encore barrel among other work. Super nice guy and excellent work. Pretty reasonable turnaround also. I really like the Muscle Brakes that Ryan Pierce makes.

True. I've rethreaded quite a few barrels that were indicated off the OD of the barrel and not the concentricity of the bore.

Maybe it is all the local shops around me just happen to have gun guys that own them or work there.

If a gunsmith told me it would be a year out to thread a barrel. I would never use the clown again. Do you know how quick a barrel can be threaded and crowned? Very quickly. That’s gunsmith language for “I don’t want to do it” without actually saying it.

Yes, just did one.

Dropped it off Wednesday around 4PM, they called yesterday, Friday, just before lunch..... less than 48 hours - $150

I have had several done by Magna-Port years back all worked excellent, quick turn around time and super clean work.
