Just started the permit application process for our hew home and shop building. I've been squeezed into my 440 square foot shop for way too long. My new shop will be 36 x 50 inside and have a 12 x 36 lean to on one side to store my boats, tractor, and other toys out of the weather. Planning an auto lift in the center bay and it will be a Websteel building so I don't have posts inside the shop to break up the space. I am really looking forward to get to the point I can actually have a shop I can work in again without squeezing between tools....

The tools; mill, lathe, welder, drill press, grinders, band saw, air compressor, vacuum, etc do not take up much room.
Storing stuff takes up the space.

My wife is trying to declutter me.

Resist decluttering attempts by the spousal unit at all costs. Pretty soon she'll have you selling guns and going dress shopping with her if she gets her way ....

I disagree, you need room to work around those tools. They take up a significant footprint

I’ve settled on a 20x20.

Will Munny: It's a hell of a thing, killing a man. Take away all he's got and all he's ever gonna have.

The Schofield Kid: Yeah, well, I guess they had it coming.

Will Munny: We all got it coming, kid.

Figure out what you think you'll need then double or triple it. In 2 years you'll wish you went bigger even after doubling it.
