Just got an email from Ruger announcing this. Similar to their SBL but with Skinner front and rear sights, no picatinny rail, 16.1" threaded barrel.

Ugly damn thing. If Ruger ever figures out how to make a lever gun of blued steel and walnut and that not everybody needs a gun for grizzly protection maybe I'd try one.

I have a stainless Guide Gun in 45-70 I like a lot. I bought it years ago when I had a place to hunt bear in the thick swampy Eastern section of NC. Beartooth Bullets sells a 425 hard cast bullet designed to be the heaviest bullet practical for the Marlin guns. With a max load of IIRC H322 it made shooting my 3 1/2 turkey gun seem mild.

The guy that got me interested in casting bullets for a 45-70 did his target shooting into a sandy bank. He dug out most bullets and recast them. I have a 350 grain cast load using Red Dot that equals a mid level .45 Colt load. 3 shot groups under an inch at 100 yards are common.

I miss the days of 3 cent primers, but if you have a stash of LRPs handy you can have a bunch of fun with one of these.

I do hope they make one in 357 and 44 mag, or the Model 336 or which ever model it was ,I think that would be sweet.... Joe

I want one, supposedly my name is first on the list when a LGS get's one.

Got mine last week. My wife said, “That is a beautiful gun. Will I be able to shoot it?” I said, “Sure, but i don’t think you’ll like it.”

Same big bore pack gun design that’s been marketed for 20+ years. Unfortunately Ruger/Marlin have no interest in what I deem the best/versatile chamber, the 444 Marlin. Bullets in HP, SP, Mono and HCGC from 210 gr - 335 gr, from light game to the heaviest with bullet/powder combinations that give speeds of 2,150 fps with heavies and 2,650 with lights.

Like to see a 20” barrel with full length magazine and 1-20” twist. The 45-70 is great, and sells, but to me less versatile and only a bit more powerful. Still what animal is going to shed 300 gr or 335 gr loads out of a 444 Marlin at 2,250 fps and 2,150 fps at 150 yards, none. On light game using the 210 gr Speer, 225 Barnes or 240 XTP, it’s pretty much a bang flop with massive energy dump from such rapid expansions at 444 Marlin speeds. How about it Ruger, give us a do-it-all tube feed lever gun again. Only one man’s opinion.

I've had mine little over a month now and had it out a couple times with my Hybrid 46 screwed on. Have shot mostly subsonics, trying to work up a "quiet" deer load, although I did run a few Remington 405gr JSP factory loads through it. Very neat package, quick handling and sights are great! Very comfortable to shoot with subsoncs, I have not tried any higher horsepower loads through it (I have other 45-70s for that) because I mainly bought it as a suppressor host. I think Ruger/Marlin is off to a great start and look forward to what they come up with next, I'd love to see a 336 Trapper in .35 Rem!

Pretty sure they will but the question is when. Best evidence for that is their new manuals. On the Marlin website at the bottom of the specs page for the 1895 they have a link to the new manual. In that manual at the top of page 19 is the sentence:

'Ammunition Notes and Warnings:
NOTE: If your rifle is chambered for 444 Marlin, .45-70 Gov’t. or 450 Marlin,
please carefully review the following warning and dimensions."

Under the two models they haven't introduced yet, the 336 and 1894, the instruction manual link has an asterisk warning: "* Ruger was not involved in the creation of these manuals and cannot verify the accuracy of the information provided in them. We offer these manuals only as a courtesy to pre-Ruger Marlin firearms owners."

So by deduction if the new Ruger-Marlin manual lists the .444 and .450, that's a pretty good bet they'll eventually offer those.

My customized Marlin 45-70 is a constant companion for my Alaskan activities. Nice wood and the 21" octagon barrel and receiver has good bluing. To me its a beautiful rifle. But, that stainless synthetic Trapper is appealing to me.

I would want mine Mag Na Ported to get rid of some of the muzzle jump. Stuffed with some of my hoarded heavy jacketed bonded 350 grain Kodiak Bullets I would be much better armed then with any handgun.

Rigged with a 2 point AR sling, fast to get into action.

At 72 I doubt I need another 45-70, but I want that Trapper!
