I call this rifle my SG of destiny. Its a 1949 SG in 220 Swift(still blueing on the bolt!). It all started on April 30. I attended the Bloomsburg gun show on Sat April 30th. Really great show. Crazy thing was i think the vendors were BUYING more guns than selling! I was tempted to buy 2 winchester pre 64 mod 70s but passed. I did sell an unfired 1894 marlin in 44 mag to a vendor. I almost sold my 1959 FWT in 270 but knew it was worth more. So it was a good day nonetheless. The next day I was heading North to fish and work on my hunting grounds for 2 weeks. I first stopped at Parker dam and did pretty well with 24 rainbows but at 11 it started pouring so I quit. So I ate lunch and headed west on I 80. Next thing I see is a sign that says gun show this exit!(Jefferson Co fairgrounds). You know i had to stop. Was a smaller show but had a very good number of older wood/blue rifles. I carried the 59 FWT just in case. Some tempting rifles but lo and behold at the very back last table there lays this 1949 SG in 220 swift. Well I definitely did not need it BUT it was a SG and I had some cash from the show the day before. So with some dickering and some horse trading we came to an agreement. I traded the 59 FWT and some cash for the SG. Funny thing was it came down to the SG swivels. The seller was nice enough to drive home to retrieve the correct swivels to seal the deal! So you see so many things had to fall in place for this gorgous rifle to land into my hands. I didnt even know there was a gun show taking place and the rain made me stop. Truly an experience I will never forget. And the fishing the following 2 weeks was exceptional!

Congrats, one has to consider themselves very lucky to find that gun just sitting on a table at a show (and in the afternoon to boot).

I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Pocono, maybe because his asking price was 3500? Which I thought was pretty reasonable considering the good condition. Not what I paid though.

BLR358WIN: Great find there! One of my favorite Model 70's in my collection is a mint Supergrade in 220 Swift - my Rifle was manufactured on May 10th 1954. I never pass up a chance to "stop-in" at a gunshow. After the full and successful day fishing then finding that Supergrade I think I would have stopped and bought a LOTTO ticket on the way home. Enjoy that treasure. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

Lol , I got to my primary fishing destination that evening and actually didnt do to bad. was very windy but I still caught 10 perch, 6 bluegills and a largemouth. The next morning I ran out of bait at 830! Landed 27 big smallmouth. Was a whopping 39 degrees. God I love retirement!!!!

Beauty, although sounding like a good trade for I'd have had a heck of a time giving up a .270 FWT.

BLR358WIN: AMEN to your observation regarding "retirement"! I have been retired for 24 1/2 years now and have LOVED every minute of it. IF.... I had known how wonderful retirement was I would have initiated my retirement 5 years earlier when I first became eligible. Keep up the good work. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

Handwerk, the 1959 Fwt in 270 was a great rifle BUT it was cut an inch and a pad was added. Great shooter but NOT a collector.
