Gents, A while back I snagged a bargain Model 600 in 308. Replaced the bottom metal and vent rib with aluminum. Had the bolt jeweled by Skip Baldwin (can't recommend him highly enough). Replaced the trigger with a Timney (almost dropped in, just had to relieve a little space for the safety lever to move freely). Replaced the old pad with a grind-to-fit decelerator. Replaced the Weaver rail with a Leupold base. It came with an unexpectedly nice bedding job and the barrel is already floated... so I'm leaving that be. When mid-summer boredom sets in, I'll probably refinish the walnut. For now, though, this one is done.

Nice. We need a range report now.

Ping pong balls for the win. Once you've wrestled everything else in life is easy. Dan Gable I keep my circle small, I’d rather have 4 quarters than 100 pennies.

Thanks y'all. Should be getting it to the range in the next week or two. I still look at it and think "I should think this is ugly"... but I don't. Can't really explain it!

Nice rifle. I found one in a pawnshop a few years ago. I had to leave it there. The owner wanted a premium price for a beat up rifle.

I sold my 600 with a 22-250 barrel. A “gunsmith” tig welded a bolt handle on it and it was positioned incorrectly. There was nothing I could do with it. The guy who bought was sure he could move the bolt handle. I see 600 bolts for sale on E-bay for over $300. I keep my eye out for more 600’s or 660’s - but I want to pay less than Gun broker prices.

Did the guy end up relocating the handle?
This one is in pretty nice shape now, but certainly not a collector. Keeping it around as a box blind and truck rifle. The extra few inches off the barrel make a huge difference in that context.
