My first Smart phone was an android 3G phone, and I got by pretty handily with 3 GB of "high speed" data allowance monthly. Usually ran out, but it was close to the end of the month and I was ok using slower speeds for a couple of days.
Went to a 4G android phone and suddenly 3 GB of data evaporated in just a few days. And yeah... I was using the phone for more things, but was also told that 4G ate data faster than 3G Most months now I get by pretty well with 15GB of high speed data.
Starting to look like eventually 5G is gonna be hard to avoid. Is there any way to compare/extrapolate how much more data a 5G phone would use if doing the same things on it that I do with 4G?

Try to use everyone’s wifi where ever you go.
Many places have a guest access.
Fast food places, hotels, dr offices, grocery stores

Data usage is bull schit here. Cell phone coverage is spotty, and usually not available at my house, so if the data usage is turned on, it will gobble up minutes trying to find a connection. I try to keep it turned off, but if the phone battery runs down, It will turn itself back on when charged. Another gripe is when the low battery warning comes on, you cannot charge the phone with a usb plug in, in your vehicle. The low battery repeating over and over uses up the charge faster than it comes in. This starts somewhere around 15% of battery left. miles
Look out for number 1, don't step in number 2.

The issue will cell phone data is many apps are eating data even when you are not using them. So if you want to limit your data use, either remove or force stop apps working in the background. And remember, your phone software and security software demand big bites of data when they update so as slumlord said, use WIFI every chance you get. Also, turn your phone off at night so that its not eating data while you are sleeping.
In regards to comparing data usage from 3G to 4G to 5G, a Gigabite is a Gigabite. The only difference is the speed of transfer. However, newer phones gobble data because they have more power and data hungry apps so kill what you don't need.

As said, turn off all the data suckers. There are many videos on what to clear on youtube. I always do that, and I use about 1/10 of my plan allotment through verizon. I play pandora a lot, and youtube. I dont do video games at all.
