I've wanted one for a while, but kept putting it off until today.

Went with the PSAK GF5 with Magpul furniture. This model has the ALG trigger, and FN hammer forged and chrome-lined barrel.

A great way to say Go Brandon!

I had one a few years ago, and was fairly unimpressed - though I think quality varies a lot from maker to maker.

PSA also makes an AR pattern rifle, the KS47, which uses AK mags, and has a nitrided barrel. I found mine shoots well, and I think gives you the advantages of an AK with better ergos and probably better accuracy.

The KS-47 looks like a nice melding of AR and AK.

My choice of the AK has a fair amount of nostalgia, based on my years in the Marine Corps. The AK being the predominant weapon of most adversaries. I have wanted to have one, and learn all about it beyond just fam-fire. I really wanted the classic wood furniture, but at my 6'3" frame, that tiny buttstock would just suck.

Nice, I picked up a PSAK GF3 with the same furniture a while ago. I like the gun but that Magpul Zhukov stock pops me in the cheek pretty good with each shot. Might be a "me" problem, but I need to find another folding stock that at fits me better.

I'll have to see how the Zhukov works for me. I'm not averse to putting a muzzle device on it to smooth it out a little, if that's what it will want.

I have been playing with the Kalashnikov platform for over 40 years. Down to just a couple now, but they are good ones.

Same here, MM.

And His tests do seem very honest.

That's kind of my feeling too. I've got a couple AR uppers in 7.62x39 already, so it wasn't too much of a leap to add an AK pattern rifle.

Picked up the rifle in town yesterday. Familiarized myself with the field-strip and reassembly process, all very easy.

Waiting on the other part of my order with ammo, magazines, front sight tool, before shooting it.

Overall I'm very pleased with it at first blush. The length adjustable buttstock is perfect. It's also a folder. I filed another notch in the slant brake to make it a lefty. The ALG trigger feels real nice, probably 2.5 lbs or so.

I gave the bore a good scrubbing with a bronze brush, and MT Extreme Copper Killer, then another go with Bore Tech Eliminator.

There was all sorts of trash coming out of that bore. Now it's smooth, clean, shiny, and showing that nice FN chrome lining.

The rest of my order from PSA has finally shipped. Ammo, front sight tool, muzzle brake, extra magazines. Should be here by the end of next week.

I'm eager to get some rounds downrange, but don't see the point until I can zero it properly with the front sight tool.

I could go caveman on the front sight, but I've chosen not to.

Got the AK sighted in today, and did some rock plinking out to around 600 yards.

I zero'd at 100 yards with the rear sight at 100. PSA says it's an 800 yard sight, but it's probably meters???

Anyhoo, shooting Tula 122gr FMJ I managed 5-shot groups between 2.5" and 3.5" at 100 yards. Most were under 3". My 61 year old eyes did the best they could. Wind was 10-20 mph full value. Since the Magpul handguard has M-Lok slots, I attached a Magpul bipod up front, and used a beanbag rear. I was shooting from prone on the ground.

After getting the 100 yard zero in place, I lased a pumpkin size rock at 412 yards. Adjusted the rear sight to 400, and shot about 3 feet over the target. Had to dial the rear sight to 300, and hold under to get hits.

Then I found a target at 604 yards. I had to set the rear sight to 400, and was pretty close.

Wind was a factor, but the rear sight calibration is way more than needed for given ranges. I suppose that is why most AK shooters opt the basic battlesight zero, and consider it a 300 meter tool.

I might put a 3X prism sight on this. Using the 3X prism on my 7.62x39 AR uppers I know it is properly calibrated (ACSS reticle), and works well to 600 yards.

Overall I had a blast enjoying this new rifle with it's excellent ALG trigger. And the ammo is still among the lowest centerfire ammo available. I'm very happy with it.
