I have a TC Encore and would like to add a 6mm BR barrel. It will be primarily for coyotes and other small varmints and bunnies. I was looking at the MGM site and they offer a 6mm BR/Norma .272 neck.
I emailed them about free bore. They offer 0 to ,104, but will give me what I want. A quick look tells me the maximum length bullet I might use is 0.940 inches. Do any of the competition shooters use a 6mm BR in the varmint field? What do you think of 0.040 to 0.060 inches of free bore? I won't be jamming the bullet into the lands. Tickle it maybe.

the 6BR is great in a p dog field in a single shot. 55 gr bal tips will go awful fast and heavy bullets will fight the wind. it is a versatile cartridge.
as a general rule our group has found the 55 BT will take quite a bit of jump and still shoot well.

I have a 6BR zero free bore that I use for 'dog shooting with the 55 gr BTips at 3,700. On a break action where you're not going to be into the rifling, .030 would be a nice way to go. The .272 neck is perfect for Lapua cases. Make sure the reamer is shootin the 1.560 Norma chamber length and not the original Rem 1.520 length.
Good shootin ' -Al

Good shootin ' -Al Thanks for responding. 0.030 sounds like a good place to be. I will be ordering from MGM and they advertise the chambering as 6mm BR Norma, so it should be 1.560. The slowest twist they offer is 1 in 10, but for a varmint barrel that won't be a handicap. All the best.

I have 2 rifles in 6mmbr. One is a 700 with a Mcmillan A5 w/Shilen M40 barrel setup for long range as well as a Nesika Model J with a Shehane Tracker stock Shilen barrel 1/13 twist. Love this caliber. My long range setup groups 1.5 inches at 600 yards.
