Given the current state of affairs going on in the world I have one SHTF/Ship Hits The Fan rifle that I'm bringing with me should I have to leave my home or take flight on foot! It's an 8 twist 223 Tikka T3 with a SWFA ultralight scope! I shortened the barrel to 20" and the rifle weighs 6.8 lbs. Mine is specifically for getting meat should I get hungry
What are your thoughts on a SHTF rifle? I'd also like to wish everyone the best with what's coming and I hope all my campfire friends get thru to the other side
Trystan
Good bullets properly placed always work, but not everyone knows what good bullets are, or can reliably place them in the field

Grab an AR and then find a safe spot to figure out what's next

yessir…the “Red Dawn Rig”. Though at this point in life, D.I.P. seems a more likely scenario.

AR with lots of the mags that Biden doesn't like. Just in case those deer with kevlar vests attack.
I am continually astounded at how quickly people make up their minds on little evidence or none at all. Jack O'Connor

My Savage 6A. ACCURATE, reliable, quiet ( not attracting attention is a GOOOD thing), non- threatening appearance, LOTS of ammo and a parts kit that I can rebuild it twice. Laugh if you like, but a properly applied .22 long rifle is very effective.
Keepin my back green and my powder dry. The LORD bless and keep you

I wonder if iron sights would be better for a SHTF rifle? I'm going to have to think on this one..!!!!!
Cartridge: 556/223 AR15 platform that has never show signs of weakness... My mismatched Spikes Tactical/Windham Weaponry.
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Before I got scared of them and melted them down to scrap with a blowtorch, I had an AR or two that would get the job done.

That should work good. Probably 16" barrel?

I built 2 back during the end of GWBs term before crap went to hell in a handbasket. I have a couple of Winchester 9422s that will accept 22 S, L &LR and dozens of boxes of 22 shorts and buckets of 22lr.
I also built an additional upper for each, less the CH & BCG.
Both 5.56, a 14.5" barrel in a 7 twist with fixed iron sights and a 16" in a 8 twist with an older Leupold FX 4x scope. I am considering replacing the uppers with 223 Wylde nitrided barreled uppers, not that the chrome lined barrels wouldn't suffice. It's just that I have found the newer Wylde 3r and 5r nitrided barrels I have recently used are more accurate. I am also considering replacing the Leupold with a new Trijicon, Eotech or a Nightforce I already have.
About the same time I built these I also purchased a Yugoslavian AK rifle from coworker with a bunch of Yugoslavian spam cans of ammo. I have a couple of M1 Garands, surely I can find '06 ammo at Ace Hardware. I was recently offered a M1 Tanker by my cousin that belonged to my uncle, I just need to go to Arkansas and retrieve it. I am trying to negotiate with coworker on a M1 Carbine and a ton of ammo cans full of ammo.
I would think SHTF transportation and lodging/destination is more important than a dedicated SHTF rifle, especially if you already have a rifle (bolt or semi) chambered in a "NATO" or Soviet bloc caliber.
