It's not glass bedded yet, but I just got done with the fitting. Man, the action inletting was great, but where the bottom metal goes it was too shallow. I hate it when sharp edges stick up above the surface of the stock. Damned near wished it was not a poundR. That kevlar is a biotch to work with. I kept thinking the guy that said he had one at Brown precision right now: Smart man. Aiken to rebuilding an automatic transmission or having a tooth pulled. Not enjoyable. This picture says a lot though:

Thanks guys. I'm extremely happy with it. I'm heading out to the shop right now to pull the barreled action out of the stock and do some clean up. Wish me luck!! ha ha..

Just checking the balance on this one. Damned near perfect: Finished with the glass bedding and clean up on this rifle yesterday. Turned out well. Now I just need to take it to the range when we aren't getting 30mph winds!!! That $500 7mm rem mag is growing on me too. Well, I guess I only have $460 into it now, since I sold the scope mounts and rings recently. Seems to be a damned good rifle. Oops, I replaced the factory recoil pad because someone had ground on it and it was not great. So with the cost of the limbsaver, I'm now back up to $500...: I wish the original owner could see it and shoot it now. I think he'd want to buy it back. ha ha..

Lawrence, Have you weighed that rifle now that it's in the Pound'r? Yeah, it is 8 pounds 3 oz's scoped, as you see in the picture. The scope weighs 14.8 OZ's and the mounts and rings another 5 oz's I'm assuming.

I really should know that. I knew my 338 was 25” but for some reason I thought 300’s were a hair longer.

Sorry, when I was typing that this morning, I may have been half asleep. Went on a tow to damn near San Francisco last night, so I was tired. Left at midnight and got back at 10 this morning..

Almost like 2 peas in a pod now. At one time I thought about buying an Echol's legend. We talked about that a bit. But I also told myself that if a PoundR came my way I'd snag it. Luckily I saw this one when it came up. One of these days, you'll have to give one a try..

For sure. I like what I see. I need a new stock to list over. The Bridges may be hard to get now that McM has restructured as well.

I think the PoundR is more simple looking, while the Legend has more elegant lines. That Bridges stock is really nice too, but I've heard guys with big hands don't like how "cramped" they feel. Then you have other guys saying just the opposite. Its windier than hell out there right now, or I'd have that 300wby at the range. I think I just saw a cow fly past the window!!!

Tough to find any of us that say the same things about stocks.
I don’t find the Bridges closed at all myself. Feels more like a British style grip myself, but I’m just a hack mostly and the Brown looks very usable as well.

Good looking setup buddy BSA, that'll make a dandy mountain elk rifle, i've had two 300 WBY's over the decades, one was a Classicmark ll WBY, the other was a Winchester classic with walnut stock and 24 inch barrel, it was a hell of a rifle, both rifles fired 200gr npt's at 3050-3100 fps over hefty charges of 7828 LOL, no rangefinders/weather stations and twisty scopes worth a bucket of cold piss in those days ; ]

Nice to hear from you my friend. Dang that load sounds nasty. Well, I took my rifle out to the range yesterday. I got tired of waiting for the storm to clear out. Still windy as hell here and dust blowing around everywhere. The rifle still shoots good: Now, on this target I said the POI shift was because the factory stock may have had a little pressure on the barrel. But I have to rethink some of that because when I got home and looked at all my targets from my 204 Ruger to my new 7mm Rem mag, all the groups were to the left. Some of that (or at least half of it) may have been because of the wind. Now today is as beautiful as f!!! Birds are chirping and there is no wind. I'm not going to shoot the wby again until I replace that damn hard Decelerator. I have never seen a Pachmayr Decelerator turn that hard. Didn't realize it until I started shooting the rifle. The sides of the pad are rock hard. Doesn't do much to ease the pain. Love the stock though and it's still shooting great. That group I posted above was from a cold clean barrel. The first shot was the one to the right. I always love a rifle that puts the first shot into the cluster.. A good sign the bedding and barrel are good. I brought both of my new 7mm rem magnums to the range, but only 1 box of ammo, and that was for load development. I had changed the scope on my blued classic: And I need to get it re-zeroed so I can check some loads I worked up with the federal Trophy Bonded bullets I had. The boss was showing some pretty good promise with some 3/4" groups. I lucked out on both of my new 7mm's. They both shoot great. There will be more to come about my 300wby with the PoundR stock, but not until I replace the recoil pad. I have 3 red pads on order, so the wait begins...
