If you are selling them, even the skinny ones count. If you have a PU harvest quota, let the snakes through!
Bigger ones are easier to process too.
I think the mesh size for PU is in the regs somewhere, for both dip nets and gill nets (same as commercial???). I'm too lazy and busy to look it up tho.
I see F&G have cut the hours for PU Kasilof gill net (me!) this year, to 11 a.m to 11 pm, from 6 a.m, eliminting maybe half the tides fishable. Ostensibly to preserve natural run Kasilof kings, of which virtually none are caught, that I've seen - I'll have to ask about last year's actual reported take... I'm aware, on the north side last year (2 days fishing, & talking to others), exactly one king (10 lbs, if that) caught in those 2 days and prior. Maybe they get more on the South side.
"If we can save just one King's life...." Of course, they could eliminate catch and release torture deaths by simply closing the king fishing entirely in the Kasilof.
I suspect the all-commercial-interest advisory board had something to do with it. Gotta save as many reds as possible for their own nets. I quit the advisory board when they sandbagged the entire membership into all commercial interest. Well, I didn't exactly quit. I just wasn't re-elected, and I saw no reason to continue to attend the meetings. Futile.... waste of my time and gas to go.
