I am curious if anyone here has tried this decapping die and has any thoughts. I ordered it after I snapped a second Redding pin. The Redding pin mics at 0.057. A couple of guys at my gun club use this and can't say enough about them. Ordinarily, I don't get too excited about dies like this, but the price was right ($50) and it includes two (2) 0.057 Lapua Profile Pins.

Concerns right off the bat for me would be the O.D. of the threaded decapping piece. Not that it couldn't be turned down to fit through the necks on smaller stuff, of course.

Plus, shoving a case into a 'universal' die that leaves it unsupported and hoping the decapping pin finds the flash holes...no thanks.

I just use a Wilson decapper base and a light hammer. That way, you know the decapping pin is registered in the flash hole

When I receive it, I will mic the pin housing. My gut tells me that it will probably measure about 0.180 to 0.200 inches.

I've been decapping everything with one for a few years at least now. For small flash hole Lapua brass it's been the most reliable solution I've tried for my process. I bend a pin every few thousand cases I'd say, so I do keep a stash.

Hi Carl. Thanks for the input. Since you have one, could you mic the pin housing? I guesstimated that it is 0.180 to 0.200 inches in size. It doesn't matter to me, but I suspect that .224 case necks are the smallest that this die will handle.

Mine measures .216"

After a couple of problems with UPS, the decapper arrived. It is well made. I decapped 50 223 Rem cases, despite my buying it for the 6BR, just to see and feel how it would work.

It was installed on a Lyman accessory press, following the instructions. It isn't a complex thing, but the decapper is long. You can see a small gap between the shell holder and the die body here.



This is how it comes from Mighty Armory. Everything is contained in a white cardboard box. I ordered an extra pin but he included two, plus the one installed in the die.

Very nice looking die. I am waiting on a barrel now for my 6mm Br. I have 200 pieces of new Lapua brass and was wondering about the pin size. I have a set of match grade Hornady dies already. I did not mike the pin but did take a case and check pin fit. It slides right in with no issues and has clearance, so I think I am good. These dies use a bushing and so I am looking for a FL non bushing die that once I get my neck tension figured out, can have it honed out to the size I need.
I really don't want to get into donuts at the base of the neck.

A good way to go is to use a standard Redding 22BR full length die (#91316) and open up the neck with a carbide reamer for the neck size you want. I've made several of these and they work out very nice if you want a fixed neck diameter.

Redding dies for 6BR have the smaller, 0.057 decapping pin.

Steve, what does the O.D. of the threaded decapper piece measure?

Hi Al. I am away this weekend and can check mine when I am back Sunday. Carl says his miced 0.216.

I decapped some 223 cases to try it and there were no problems passing through the neck. Not sure about depriming cases that are sized though.

My decapper miced at 0.217, so it's good for .224 cartridges as well.
