Folks,
I'm looking for some data using Hornady 65 grain V Max bullets in my 10 twist Ruger No.1a.
I've got some Varget -VV 140-150-160 IMR4350-AA2700 ang Big Game & 4064.
I was using Nosler BT and Varmagdedon but a gunsmith told me to try the V Max bullets . I couldn't find and 70 or 75s so I bought the 65s.
Thank you in advance for your time and help.

I have loaded for the 58 grain VMax in the 243 using W760, and it's a good shooting load, fast too. Big Game is about the same burn rate as 760, and might work. The AA2700 is supposedly the same as 760.

IMR-4064 is where I would start and most likely end.

I shoot a lot of those 65 V Maxes in my 243s....

4064 of course...

44.5 to 45 grain charges, Regular large rifle primer...

for some reason, that charge with that powder, and those charge weight, seems to favor Federal LR primers....

don't ask me why, but that is in 5 different 243s... so I don't question it....

YMMV.

70 gr TNT is also a dandy bullet in the 243... and with the above charge...

will work dropping Blacktails just fine also.

IMR 4064, Varget, R#15, 8208, and the 4895's are barrel eaters with this 65g. Consider 2460 and AA2520. Check out a HEAT INDEX chart on powders, get ready for a shock.

Good to know on the heat index.
I have a 243 set up for 65 vmax loaded with varget that shoots beyond my expectations so I haven’t changed a thing component wise.
I might have to rethink that.
