Here in Florida most of the guys who mow the grass on the side of the roads, will never hesitate to tell you the have seen Skunkape and don't care if you believe them or not. They all say they smelled him before they saw him, and most carry a side arm with them while mowing.
Huh, who knew. I bet those dudes see some big-ass Pythons too.
1990 or so. Out camping in southernmost idaho near the Nevada border. I was riding in the back of a Toyota pickup with a friend and two friends were up front. We parked on a hillside and did a little plinking before finding our way back to camp when all the sudden a shadow about 7 of 9 feet tall came running up on us in the darkness.
We hurried and turned on the spot light but it was already on us by the time we got the light on. I damn near wet my pants in fear as the unknown large shadow approached. When the light came on we were only slightly relieved to see it was a cowboy on horseback pistol drawn and hammer back. There had been threats by environmentalists about then to grazing cattle and he assumed our late night target practice was aimed at cattle.
Friends of ours met the cowboy at piney cabin later that year and he told them about the kids he almost killed one night and said he had even planned were to dump the bodies. It felt like Bigfoot coming in the dark and wasn't but turned out to be a dangerous situation anyways.
BIL and I went on a camping trip in the Siskiyou national forest. 2 hour walk in and we found a spot next to a small lake. A few times after midnight as I recall heard heavy foot steps around the tent. BIL had his 22 Ruger Mark pistol and that was it for animal protection.
craved fake big feet out of wood when I was a kid, then I went and left tracks around the small lake at Dick Kleberg Park in Kingsville.
