$100 an hour seem to be the going rate around here. Some may have a fixed price.

FWIW, Briley charges $60 per hole for D&T.

If Briley is charging 60 per hole then that means that their clientele have no problem paying that. Crazy

Recoil Pads done right are not going to be cheap.

A really good job these days is about $100 plus cost of pad, maybe a touch more.

There's a lot of room for expensive mistakes when grinding the pads. I don't get as good of results on the jig as on the stock.... but that means we're only one thickness of tape from disaster.

I like using the jig myself. Will be doing a few red pachmayr's in the next couple weeks.

Your experiences echo mine... But that last 'thickness of tape' I did by hand - part on the stock and part off the stock...

I sold the jig. It just wasn't worth having. Last pads I installed were $75 + the pad..

I have no way to even guess at the number of recoil pads I have installed and I've never seen a jig. I am now pretty well retired so I can't comment on cost now. thirty years ago, I charged enough to fill my pickup with diesel. I reckon that would be fair today. GD

I’ve done a bunch of pads…$100 labor + cost of pad is fair. I agree with all that has been said above. I too have witnessed many lousy install jobs. You don’t want to skimp to save a buck on a pad install(recipe for disaster).

Here’s an example of my install for $100 labor.

Pics: Before/After grinding.

The operative term specified should always be "fitted" and not "installed"
Hand-fitting will always be analog - if it was digital it would be 'plug & play' and you could install it.

I ordered a few grindable pads, with plans on learning how to do it myself...I have a couple of older rifles that need the LOP shortened a bit, seems like a perfect opportunity to screw a stock up. wink
