They need to be banned in western US

Too many wildfires get started from irresponsible use of fireworks

We get too many fires started from other ways

Lightning...careless campfires (when not banned) vehicle heat over dry grass....tow chains etc

When I was a kid I would make similar but with small glass jars that had screw on metal lids. I’d get the rocket fuse at the hobby shop.
A little wax around the fuse hole and you could roll fish up from the bottom of the pond!

Only recently became legal here in Iowa. Killjoys now making all sorts of local ordinances to spoil the fun.

BigDave39355: As a child (in the 1950's) I remember buying "Cherry Bombs" - do they still sell those these days?
I remember they really blew stuff up.
Thank goodness I still have all my fingers.

Not sure about now, but back in the 90's, to get a retailers fireworks license in La., you had to buy $300 worth of fireworks + a $25 IIRC license fee from a wholesaler. You would not believe what $300 at wholesale prices would buy back then. These days, I dont know what the rules are.

I took a $100 to a friend that had a stand and said 'fix me up'. He just kept piling fireworks on the table and I dont just mean the cheap stuff. Remember the big paper bags you got at the grocery store. I had 4 of them stuffed full. Told him that was too much and he was losing money. He laughed and said he only made about 75%-100% on me, dont tell anyone....

He's the fellow that told me how to get a license. The next year, 3 of us went together and got the license and more fireworks than we knew what to do with.

When I was young it was all illegal in Minnesota, but a few places in Wisconsin had stands with small stuff. You had to go to South Dakota to get the good stuff. There were a lot of stands right across the border. A few years ago Minnesota finally allowed some of the really wimpy things like sparklers and smoke bombs. I don't know of any place that you can still get cherry bombs. They were the best!

My buddy's dad had a fireworks stand, it was on the north edge of Alice Tx where they owned a hotel on Hwy 281, we would have bottle rocket fights. We would shoot them out of 4ft pvc tubes at each other, I got Allan good one time on the belly, it was perfect timing it exploded right on contact and gave him a nasty burn.
On another occasion doing the same I shot at paul but missed and hit a DPS Troopers cars passenger window as he was driving down 281, Luckily Allans Dad was a retired LEO and managed to keep us from getting arrested.
Then there was time we were cruising down 6th st in Austin throwing rockets and other stuff out the car window.

We used BB guns to aim bottle rockets. Slide them down the muzzle and bam - you got sights and a shoulder stock to launch them.

Go up to the cottage as kids - send someone out in a canoe on the lake and try and "sink" them.

Year round sales here and we can buy almost anything to shoot.
Most years local authorities put a ban on shooting them unless on private land.
Not hard to find private spots, and some local gov't sponsored sites to shoot them off.
They are not allowed on NF or BLM lands.

You used to be able to buy bottle rockets and Roman candles here...but only on the Rez.

Not sure about today.

When I was a kid, all fireworks were illegal here in Idaho but they could be bought next door in WY. When we had a trip planned in that direction, we'd all save all the money we could to buy as many as possible. Of course when we hit the 1st border town, we'd all want to spend every nickle since we never had the patience to wait until we were farther into the state and they were cheaper. Stuff like sparklers and Roman Candles were considered girly. We wanted explosives. Cherry bombs and M80's. Packs of Black Cats. We wanted a bang for our bucks. Mom preferred sparklers. Booorrrring. She said we could write our names in the air with them. Even mooorrre booorrrring. We wanted our names to explode.

Nope. Not even nipsy daisers with OR without the scooter stick. Not even a single whistling kitty chaser.
