Sold the trailer house yesterday for more than I thought I’d get. It’s being moved. Daughter is handling real estate stuff for me ( she is ruthless). A fellow asked her aquote on the property yesterday. She answered and he seems interested. I was a bit shocked at what she quoted him!!!!

Thanks Randy. Should be done and out by the weekend. Still have some cleaning up on the property to take care of. But dealing with 44 years of accumulated crap was quite a feat!
A bittersweet farewell too!

That entire area 75 miles from the Capitol Building is nothing but "Austin" now.
Everything in that 75 mile circle is impacted one way or another.
Went into downtown Bastrop yesterday. Couldn’t find a place to park!!! Traffic just like Austin. With all the crap that comes with it. Crackerbox subdivisions all up & down the hwy.

I escaped encapsulation in 2002 just outside Ft Worth, TX! Got almost double what we paid for a house and 4 acres! Wasn't crazy about coming to OK, but it has proven to be a good move. Sitting on 40 acres in a "PAID" house. Nearest neighbor a mile away.
Wife and me drive US281 from Wichita Falls to San Antonio fall and spring (snowbirds! 😉). From Lampasas south is just an extension of the Austin/San Antonio "corridor". I worked between Taylor and Austin back in the 70's. Hutto, Round Rock and Pflugerville were small, rural communities There were remote areas between Austin, San Marcos, New Braunfels and San Antonio. The IH35 "corridor" now stretches almost from Waco to south of San Antonio!
I steer as clear of that mess as possible. I do, however, partake of "Old 300" BBQ at Blanco when we pass through. Actually, it's about the ONLY place fit to eat on our entire route! ....and since I love BBQ! 😉
I was in district traffic operations from 1986 to 1998 TxDOT traffic data acquisition. I watched it all!!! Worked every state maintained road in district from Mason to Lee co. Matter of fact Dallas Morning News did a story on the Austin growth explosion in ‘96. Had my pic in article programming a traffic counter with a short interview.
Edit!
While at division in my days before district work I did a lot of the preliminary traffic counts on US 290 thru Oak Hill for proposed Freeway!!! That was 1977!!! Those numbers were totally useless as the future growth was something no one could have predicted. All I did were the counts. The engineers did the rest.

Saw Ft Worth go through pretty much the same thing from 1991 to 2002.....except with their water usage. Usage went up over 100MGD per day in a matter of 10 years! When I left in 2002, usage was within 90% of pump capacity! The city was going ape trying to figure where they could get more water and how to get it out! LOL!
Also watched the US 287 corridor from up near Alvord all the way down to Ennis go absolutely nuts! Saw little backwater towns like Weatherford, Springtown and Decatur go from idyllic, lazy towns to living extensions of Fort Worth. A lot of "big money" people getting their family's out of Fort Worth. Mom had kids on school (W'Ford, S'town and Decatur had nice schools),money to burn and nothing yo do. They began running for political offices until they literally drug those small towns, kicking and screaming, into "rural Fort Worth suburbia". Sad, they WERE nice little towns!
Edit: Texas 199 went from a sleepy little two lane from Springtown into Fort Worth to a rip roaring, divided four lane death trap within that same 10 years.
Best of luck with the move Bob, a lot of memories being left behind.

Yes Birdy. Bittersweet, but time to start a new chapter.
