In this month's issue of the American Rifleman Joe Coogan has written a very interesting article on the development of this caliber. I'm not into big bore double guns myself but I still found this to be a great read.

I’ll need to read that. I’m getting soft in my old age. I doubt I’d like the recoil much. Especially since my biggest game in the future would not require such a bruiser.

I feel the same way. I don't need that much power and I definitely would not want to fire one of those but I still find it to be a very interesting cartridge.

At least reading the article won't bruse your shoulder.

The article was indeed interesting - rather uncommon for the American Rifleman.

That guy must of inherited a lot of money!

Several years back Buckstix chronicled his journey of having a 700 NE double made for himself. In addition, I believe he machined his own brass and bullets?

He sold them to collectors for $100 per cartridge.
At that rate, 10,000 cartridges is a million bucks.
They sold out pretty quickly.

The redneck approach would have been
12 Gauge from Hell 3.85", bigger, more powerful.
1400-gr Darwin Slug at mere 1800 fps taught me a lesson in a single barrel.
IIRC that was with only 180 gr of RL-17, with filler !

The buyer REALLY wanted that .700! Lots of miscellaneous costs involved.

I would gladly watch someone else shoot it. 😁
