What's the general consensus on Sauer 100 XT rifles? I'd never seen one before, local shop has one in .308 that doesn't look bad...decent fit/finish, with pretty good balance. Anyone have any experience with the rifles?

They are outstanding rifles. Accurate and with features meant to defeat the Tikka T3, T3x. Made in the same plant as the Mauser M18 in Isny, Germany. Sauer, Mauser & Blaser are all made on the same campus and share barrel making equipment.

Buy with confidence........there's a fair bit of discussion about these on the fire.
I have one as well as the mauser m18......entry level design, quality manufacturing, simple but well done.
Good barrels, great triggers, excellent detachable magazine function.

The stocks feel pretty cheesy, but most stocks in that price range do. I wouldn't let it keep me from getting one.

I'm guessing the .308 I looked at it is right around 7lbs.

I just snipped these specs from a guns and ammo test.
Capacity: 5 rds. Overall Length: 42 in. Weight: 6 lbs., 11 oz. Length of Pull: 14.25 in
Pay attention to that LOP!

Paul has it right. The LOP on the Sauer and Mausers are looooong. I have a Mauser M12 and it is a tack driver. The stock however needs to be cut down to 13.5". I have to crawl into it which I hate. The trigger is probably the best trigger I've ever felt out of the box including Tikka.

I have a few of them but haven't shot them yet. I saw somewhere that their 6.5 prc barrels run slow and I hope not because that's one that I have. I finally picked up a box of lapua 6 5 prc brass the other day so I hope to test it out soon. They look well made and fit me well but the LOP on the stocks may be a bit long for shorter people.

They must think all hunters are 6'4" with arms like a gorilla and hunt in T-shirts with that LOP.

I'm only 6'2 now but used to be 6'3.5" before ankylosing spondylitis took my spine. My sleeve length is still 36-37 so your 6'4" comment is probably pretty spot on. They have a long length of pull for an average gut but I love the way they feel. If you're vertically challenged or have short arms definitely handle one before you buy one. I'm guessing lop is at least 14" maybe 14.25".

I was looking at an M18 online and thought it was one action length regardless of cartridge. Cost savings proly, but I wont run a .308 win in a long action. Bummer if the Sauer same way.

LOP shortening is an easy fix. It’s the other way around that pisses me off.
I typically like a 14”-14.25” LOP. Winchester 70s and Ruger M77s always came with 13.75” LOP with a thin recoil pad. I would always just ditch the thin pad for a 1” thick Pachmayr Decelerator pad and “Presto” LOP issue fixed.
Remington’s 13.5” LOP and thicker factory recoil pads made increasing the LOP to my liking a problem….thick spacers are ugly. Hence the reason I only own one Remington 700 to this day…and it’s in a McMillan stock with a 14”+ LOP.😁

Love the long LOP...sucks when your thumb hits you in the nose (Rem 700 338 WM) even with light loads....and this is a heavy rifle (lami stock). I've got 3 other 700s (2-280s and a 300 SAUM) that I can shoot w/o facial trauma.

Bb Blaser barrels can run slow until they are fully broken in, many times around 200 rounds. it's not uncommon for a barrel to pick up 200 fps from when new until after full break in. Sauer & Mauser barrels are made in the same room as Blaser so its highly possible they'll get faster as they settle in.

I recently purchase a 6.5 PRC Sauer. Shoots great. Have not chrono'd the loads, but nice little groups
I like the palm swell in the stock. Very clean and crisp trigger
I bought 2 rifles in 6.5 PRC: Sauer and a Tikka
Both shot great, Tikka needs to figure out the magazine.
Moved the Tikka forward and kept the Sauer

The Mauser M18 & Sauer 100 were both designed to be Tikka killers.
