Mileage tax. It's already being tried. If your car can't be tracked, it will have a monitoring device installed. So you pay your share, plus they get to track you. Been done on interstate trucking forever. In concept, its more "fair". A guy driving a clapped out POS Subaru is paying more taxes than a guy running a newer, bigger car that gets better mileage. The per mile rates thrown around seemed like a tax hike for almost everyone though. Big surprise!

FWIW, Louisiana passed, waiting for gov. to sign, a bill charging hybrid owners $60/yr and all electric owners $110/year for road use taxes.

California is taxing AIR. That's right. CA doesn't make any tax revenue off the oil which would have been used to generate electricity, so they the charge the equivalent fee/kWh as if the electricity produced by windmills had come from a fuel fired turbine. Remember, don't recharge your Tesla in CA because the grid is overwhelmed. Gotta love Kalifornification.

The car knows how many a/@v it took and the meter that fed the car knows how many Kw/h it sent. This is a scam in action.
I would not buy something that runs on any kind of primer given the possibility of primer shortages and even regulations. In fact, why not buy a flintlock? Really. Rocks aren't going away anytime soon.
