Warranty’s out.
First DEF/regen issue. JD man looking at it today.

Question to the tractor guys — pros and cons of a delete? Again, warranty is out.

Just curious, did they quote you a shop rate? Wondering if they are at $200 per hour yet? How many hours on the tractor?

Not sure on tractors, but i’ve heard positive things in reference to delete kits for trucks. The fly in the ointment is I believe some of these companies are getting hassled if not outright fined by the feds for making such products available.

I'm not sure you can delete a tractor.

Not heard of it here, anyway.

Yep you can delete them, it’ll run cooler and live longer. No real downsides if you can find someone to do it.

I'd delete it.

I have read where John Deere is involved in law suits over their software that prevents owners from repairing their own equipment. John Deere maintains they own the software, you own the steel. If you delete a piece of equipment and then need service down the road, how would that affect the dealer working on your equipment? Would they have to restore the delete at your expense or would the dealer be able to work around it?

Therein lies the major problem.

Just like Microsoft owns the software on someone's computer. You just have a user agreement.

The John Deere and Caterpillar equipment I have is older, pre electronics so I have not dealt with this. My son is a mechanic for a large construction company and they run Caterpillar equipment. They buy or lease the software and he has a laptop which allows him to do everything a dealer can do. Diagnostics, injectors, hydraulic pressure and lots of other things are adjusted electronically. And then there are all the sensors that have to be monitored.

170 hours. That’s probably going to be my issue over time, I don’t use it a lot.

Ended up being a sensor wire came loose - the code hinted at this as well.

Luckily I think have have a decent dealer. $160 and done at my barn. Rerouted wires, checked filters, etc

Yeah, the DEF and more particularly the DPF system are problematic if you use them lightly, or in "on a few minutes, then shut off again" situations.

My 100hp tractor only has the DPF, but I use it at high rpm's, and usually all day when I run it. That way the DPF has the rpm's and time to clean the filter properly.

If I have a short, quick job like putting out a couple of round bales for the cattle, or anything else that's a short job, I use my 75hp, which has neither DEF or a DPF.

I won't have any equipment that requires DEF. I have several diesel tractrors and an older track loader. And P'ups.

I also have a '89 Kubota L2850 with a BF 500 loader and 8' back blade.

We bought it new and my Dad used to ride around on it for a bit. It is stored inside , always ,and I used to plow snow , but I have hired some one to do the snow for 7-8 years.

It has 214 hrs on it ...I am gonna sell it soon.
