Majority of folks in the southwest or Southern California don’t even think about where there water comes from or how close they are to losing water. Until the day they turn on the faucet no water, what no shower? What they toilet needs city water to flush? I thought water was an endless supply.. then they will demand federal government action.. meanwhile im watering the [bleep] out my yard the water table here is off the charts. Soon alaska will be selling water, they will build supertankers just haul water to California.

I read somewhere that far from being a drought, it’s pretty much a return to normal for the west with the last 150 years or so being the wettest period out there in the last few thousand years. If that’s the case, well, schit is going to have to change. That’s partially true. We did swing from a dry period (dust bowl) to a wet period, and now back to drought. However, the current drought is not normal. A University of Columbia study (too lazy to look it up) described the current dry period in the west as the driest in 1,200 years. That said, average is not normal. That’s why we have reservoirs. We either have too much or too little. Goldie Locks never gets what she likes when it comes to precipitation in the West. We are used to drought, just not ones that last his long.

WGAF if commiefornia dries up and blows away? There's somrething about the thought of the Los Angeles area looking like the Salton Sea that gives me the warm fuzzies. I stopped just west of the state line on my trip eastbound back to Tennessee in 1980 and did my part to help the desert bloom.

I stopped just west of the state line on my trip eastbound back to Tennessee in 1980 and did my part to help the desert bloom. There is a little matter of food production there in California.

It has been suggested to relocate the federal government from Washington DC to Phoenix Arizona and run a 1/2" pipeline from the Mississippi River to Arizona. If those politicians can suck as hard as they blow we would have all the water we need! With camel toe in office this takes on a whole new context.
On a more serious note, we have the ability, technology, resources, people and ability to solve any problem. The answers are not that difficult. The only thing standing in the way is politics.

Michael Burry, the guy that saw the housing bubble in 2007 and shorted the stocks took his investments to focus on water as a commodity.
He is playing the long game but I suspect he'll make a fortune off that too one day soon.

Or stop watering the grass? Putting water on lawn grass out west ought to be a jail sentence. Of all things water belongs to everyone and car washing and grass watering with water that is public property ought to be stopped. I agree, but that's sounding a bit "socialist" in the most good for the most people sort of way. Golf courses, parks, etc are big water users too.

Southern California has the entire Pacific Ocean they can desalinate, Pheonix and Arizona is who has serious water concerns.

Some of the most vicious fighting in the early West took place because of water. Ranchers could not ranch without water and many battles ensued. For example, Billy the Kid was involved in New Mexico water battles. He was not alone, by any means.
Looks as if the time might come when "battles," albeit legal, will again be the norm.
