Last few summers have been spent in our travel trailer. Had a few neighbors with pellet grills smoking meats and I'm kinda jealous.

I really don't want to have to bring along a bunch of firewood and such. Pellet grill would allow me a bit of freedom but they are pretty gay.

Not guy kissing guy gay. I'm talking 6.5 Creedmoor gay!

BGE?

Kamado Joe?

Don’t be a hater Hig. The pellet grills are damn good and like you said, you can walk away while your ribs, brisket, pork cooks.

It’s more 270 Win gay, and I’m okay with that. I’ve got big shoulders grin

Ceramic cookers would be about the worst option for what you want. They are heavy, PITA to move and haul, and very breakable. They are not made for travel... If you are dead set on coal I would consider a Weber Smokey Mountain, or even just a 22" Weber kettle, which you could use as a grill or smoker.

You're thinking right, Hig.

Pellet grills make the most sense for a traveling smoker

Couple of my buddies have this Green Mountain tailgater and they seem to work really well. Just depends how many you're cooking for on your trips.

Know fat, know flavor. No fat, no flavor.

I tried going vegan, but then realized it was a big missed steak.

We bought the small GMG for that purpose and have carried it around with us in the camper. It works fine but is still bigger and more awkward than I'd like. I did a small brisket in the pouring down rain one Memorial Day camping trip. The Camp Chef with flat top griddle gets more use for that application now.

Those mini kamados would fit the bill. As long as you aren't trying to do 1/2 a pig.

I don’t think you can go wrong with this. If it actually fits two racks, I’d be large enough for a pork shoulder and a small brisket.

Nice. The GM’s are nice units. I especially like the model you got and their other travel size unit.

Now you can jump down the rabbit hole of pellets. I truly believe most of it is in my head, but maple, apple and cherry are my favorites.

Just hard to make something come out badly on a pellet smoker.

Winning. $300 left over for meat and beer.

We have a Green Mountain small one, previous model name I can't think of. Had it about 5 years has been great.

Couple things. Empty the hopper out after use. If you leave the pellets in they draw moisture and won't burn right.

You need to clean out ash in bottom if you are having problems getting it up to temp.

The cigarette lighter plug for auto use went bad and wouldn't give a consistent connection. I called Green Mountain and they sent out a replacement no cost, no questions. Great support.

Misting meat with apple juice or rum gives it a neat glaze
