What is the difference between a large and small cylinder on a RCBS Uniflow powder measure?

Small one works great for pistol and fine ball powders up to 50 grs or so. But you need the big one for coarser grained powders in larger cartridges. That simple..mb

I have a Uniflow Quick Change with a number of preset inserts. That’s about the slickest set up for multiple rounds.

As Magnum Bob stated - the small cylinder goes up to 50 grs.

When I purchased mine in 1994, it shipped with the large cylinder. The large cylinder worked fine for over 15 years because I loaded mostly rifle and straight wall pistol cases like 38 / 357 Mag & 44 Mag.

When I started loading 9mm and light charges for 38 Special, I found that I was not getting the consistency I desired using the large cyinder.

I purhased a small cylinder and like it much better. I can load down to 2.7 grs of 700x with 148 HBWCs for 38 target loads with the consistency I desire.

I now only use the small cylinder. I fits all my needs. If I need a charge of 58 grs of 4350 - I simply throw two charges of 29 grs.

I wish my Uniflow Powder Measure had shipped with the small cylinder from the get-go. I no longer use the large cylinder.

When I bought my Uniflow it came with bother cylinders. I have only used the large cylinder because I don't load anything smaller than 38-40, 357 Mag and I don't use any powder that meters less than 7 grains. Works just fine for me.

Not RCBS, but w Redding #3, small micrometer/cylinder works way better for charges under 15 grains or so.

The Quick Change Uniflow set up is hard to beat.

Preset inserts save a lot of time.
