I was in the Academy Sports in Amarillo TX earlier today and they actually had over ten thousand small pistol primers on the shelf both standard and magnum of several different brands. They were asking $7.99 a package. I can't remember the last time I saw primers on the shelf anywhere. I don't load anything that requires small pistol primers so I left them on the shelf. Now if they would just get some large rifle primers in and some 209 shotgun primers. Those I can use.

That's really good news. Both Natchez Shooters Supply and Mid South have recently had pistol primers in stock for a couple of days. It used to be for only a few minutes at a time and then rarely. They were about $80 or so/1000 + shipping and Haz-Mat. One of them also had some small rifle primers, same price. I got all excited from past experience being frustrated in finding any and checked my inventory sheet. I realized I did not need any, which is a good thing. Just lost all the excitement in finding some. Maybe the supply is finally catching up with demand. I even saw Remington small pistol primers available.

About triple the price in three years. I remember getting Alcan primers for $5.60 back in 1973. Per 1000.

Not around here. It was .50. But I understand. In 1973 I was making about $9K a year teaching high school shop. Now I making more on fixed retirement income. Back then shooting was my most economical pastime. But, I'd have to sell a gun to fix a transmission on the junkers I drove.
Didn't have to live in a tent, however, as I had a trailer.
Did go to legion trap shoots to win a ham for a buck and didn't scrounge at the dump but that wasn't far off.

I’ve been seeing quite a few SR CCI primers in Scheels and LGS, also Cheddite 209. There’s been several thousand of each the last several times I’ve shopped.

I was just at Scheels in Reno. They had some Rem 7 1/2 small rifle match primers for $89.99/brick, CCI450's, CCIBR4's, and Chedite 209's. Still no large rifle primers there though. Another shop had some Winchester 209's that I bought for one of my buddies that lives in Oregon, that can't find any. Bought 2 bricks for $69/brick.

Pretty much the same in Scheels Rapid City, SD. Over the last 2 years Scheels has had consistently more components than Asspro...mb

I got some cci large pistol at a local shop the other day for $7.99/100. That's about the price point where I'll buy these days. I pass up lots of primers lately that are $10-$12/100 but I'll buy at under $8.

I actually found some cci small pistol and cci 400 small rifle today at sportsmans warehouse for about $5.50 a box. They had a 200 primer limit though so I just grabbed 1 box of each. Everyone else except cal ranch has been wanting the $10-$12 per box so the fact that sportsmans had them at $5.50 tells me that retailers are just really marking them up and that wholesale on them is not triple heat it used to be.

I'm hoping this means others will lower their prices soon too. At $5.50/100 I'd back up the truck if they'd let me. I think $5.50 in Biden dollars is equivalent to the $3.00 in Trump dollars we used to pay. Now that subway sings $15 footlong instead of $5 footling. I'd gladly pay $5.50 per hundred and buy thousands if possible. I can cast bullets and reuse brass but I got to buy primers and powder.

I bought 5000 Ginex Small Pistol primers (4.5/3 P-1)(from Bosnia) a couple of months ago. I'm about ready to order another 5000. I don't like the packaging, but the primers are good. They've dropped their price down to $349.95/5000, since I bought mine. Their service is QUICK, too, I ordered on Monday and got them on Thursday, IIRC.

They are hard primers, but I haven't had any misfires or other aggravations. They're a little harder to seat than domestic brands, but the price is quite good on them. I got mine from American Reloading for $72/1000, no hazmat fee, either.

If you have a 9mm 1911 with a Ti firing pin, I'd go ahead and swap that out for a steel firing pin, they are THAT hard. Still, they're providing good accuracy and burn clean with little soot.

American Reloading is really fast, I bought 5000 CCI 450's a couple of months ago and they arrived in two days. Amazing.
