I wouldn't pull a decelerator off if its fitted, but putting a microcell pad on a stock knocks a fair amount of weight off and will also shift the balance forward on the rifle, which might or might not be good.

Thanks TX35W.

Years ago I bought decelerator's that did not have the steel plate in them from MPI stocks, could not find them anywhere else. You do not need the steel plate unless you are screwing it to a stock. Unfortunately I no longer have the weight of those.

Is that Pearce long or short and is it Ti bolt or stainless? FYI: A Barrett Fieldcraft is 17.5 oz. (.308 sized). Impressively light weight on that Pearce.

SA; ti bolt.

It’s impressive what Barrett was able to do for the cost.

Are you gonna marry that Pearce with the UC Manners stock? If so, would love to see photos and weights when you're finished. Been wanting a rifle with that combo of action and stock for awhile. I have a Manners UC (short action) with a glassed in mag well (installed a thin carbon fiber plate) and it weighs 17.4 oz. Love the Manners UC. It was designed by John Vest.

That’s the plan. Need to decide on barrel and chambering. I’m not rushing into this marriage …

The weights above for the pounder, wildcat, and hi tech (Bansner) are for unfinished blanks - or at least sans pad. And that edge weight is optimistic for a finished stock as well.

I don’t think the McMillan hunter will be 24 ounce. My last edge fill mountain rifle was 26 and that’s a much slimmer stock. The McMillan hunter is my favorite pattern but it he lightest.

You aren’t wrong.

Some of those weights are just incredibly optimistic.
I’ve only weighed a few hunters edge that weighed less than 24 ounces, and those were usually with half inch pads - and made years ago, before they got fat.

In fairness,I'm guilty of having more than (1) rifle, but when connecting mechanical dots...rebarreling a Fieldcraft as per whim, sure makes a LOT of fhuqking sense. Hint.

Or simply nab one in 7-08. Hint.................(grin)

It does. A bit scarce in 7-08 though. I finally stopped looking for one and started buying parts.

Any idea what barrel contour you'll go with?

A Bartlein 2B (or similiar) fills the barrel channel nicely on the UC (per Manners). I have a Lothar Walther medium sporter with a muzzle diameter of .650" at the 22" muzzle and deeply fluted. I wish it filled the barrel channel a tad more, but it only weighs 2 lbs 6 oz., so there is that.
