I have managed to scrounge dies for everything and reload, the exception being a 9mm I just got. 9 is absurdly popular right now so there are no deals on dies. Components run nearly as high as factory anyway. I am experimenting using a.38 die with some success.
45-70 is the only thing I have never bought factory ammo. I took one look and decided dies, brass, and bullets came to around $60, when a box of 20 was 35t or 40.

Probably forgot one in there somewhere. I started on my own with the pacific/ Hornady kit around 1986.. back when we had to read books to learn this there was no internet and I knew no one else that reloaded that was alive.

Thanks. I'm up. I'm also in that in-between phase where the motivation to do things is returning, but I don't have the stamina to stay at the reloading bench long enough to get anything done. I have now been officially retired since 10 May, and my last shot taken was my gobbler on 22 April. It took over a month and careful planning to get the damn shotgun cleaned.

What really irks me is that I acquired my Brown Bess in January, and I've barely got a dozen rounds through it. I also have Mooselette's Marlin 336 on the bench. I tried to mount a new scope on it day-before-yesterday, and barely made it out of the basement.

ARRRRGH!

The only good news is that Moose dropped by with a pawnshop find: a minty 32 cal flinter squirrel rifle.
I put a patch down her yesterday and it came back clean; it may have never been shot. Together, we put together an order at Track of the Wolf for the essentials. He and I are planning a fall squirrel hunt. He'll bark them off the limb with the rifle. I'll lay down area-denial rounds with the 'Bess.

I hunted mostly with a shotgun when I was younger. I loaded my 20 and 12 gauge shells with Lee Load alls. There was an ammo scare and a lot of gun ban talk then so I bought components and tools to load rifle and pistol for everything the family owned. Never set up a place to load until 15 years ago. Once I did I started loading rifle and Pistol. I am glad I did. My ammo performs better than what I can buy and it costs much less so I shoot more.
I quit loading shotshells because My wingshooting amounts to a couple of dove hunts a year.
I have loaded:

"... Also have Remington M48 and a Savage SxS in 16, so the MEC does get some use.
Wads are hard to find though.
Holy smokes, the last time I saw 16s in factory loads, they were $15 a box! ...:

I have a Rem "Sportsman", two Win M12's, a Steven's and an "Elsie", all in 16 gauge.

I constantly keep my eyes peeled for 16 gauge ammo - ANY loading!

We "snow bird" in south Texas every winter.
Found 16 gauge ammo in a feed store in Falfurrias, TX.
Found ammo at a old M&P gun store in Bishop, TX.
Academy at Corpus Christi nearly always has a few boxes of 16. It's all a bit pricey, but I scrap my pennies together and buy a box or two along.....but I don't shoot a lot either. Kids ought to have a pretty good store of ammo by the time I'm gone! 😉

I buy lots of unprimed brass. The last actual loaded ammo I purchased was for a newly purchased 25-06 when I was working four hours from home and could not wait three weeks to shoot the rifle.....1982.
And, of of course USGI Lake City 57 through the Garand when shooting DCM. Some of my favorite brass.

I have loaded and have dies for:

Started reloading in 73 or 74 Aside from just loving the technology, a look at my caliber list should give a good idea of my motivation to handload. Shotguns I only ever loaded target ammo. These days, I probably shoot more 9mm than anything, but I have never reloaded it. For years I always felt I could by "white box" 9mm for less than the cost of components. I don't know if that's true today, but we have a commercial loader/reloader nearby, they give a discount to military and veterans and it's just wouldn't be worth my time and trouble to reload 9mm for the amount I use shooting IDPA.

Of all the deer and stuff I've killed over the last 50 years, I can recall only five deer and a caribou I've killed with factory ammo. The 'bou and one deer I killed with WW 190 Silvertips out of my .303 Savage. One deer was with a Federal blue box 150 grain .308 load and three deer were with WW 240 grain HP's from my Ruger .44 carbine (the old, original style.) That's not counting the several deer killed with factory shotgun slugs and rimfire ammo.
