I have my fathers Ruger M77-7mm Mag Tang Safety rifle he hunted with. I would like to get a new stock for it and would really like this rifle to look good when it’s done. I was looking at Boyd’s and wanted to know - I see it says drop in but is there any minor fitting with these stocks? Or are they pretty close to OEM? I’d love to find a clean Circassian Ruger factory stock for this gun. But that hasn’t happened.

My 30-06 was a drop in. Only issue was after about ten rounds it quit firing. The main trigger pin had moved to one side, the interior inletting was wider than the factory stock. I glued a shim made from a paint stirring stick to take up the gap and it’s worked fine every since.

How bad is the stock you have now? If possible a refinish and recut the checkering may give a better than new look. I have had some tangers that when refinished showed very nice grain and color. The factory finish tends to hide the grain.
Also a thought is if the stock is still serviceable you can use it as is, those stock scars tell your Dads hunting stories.

I bought a new Ruger factory stock for my M77 tang 30-06 about 5 months ago from numeric harms gun parts, stock was complete.

I bought a Boyd’s for a short action. I had to make few strokes with a rasp to increase the clearance to turn the bolt handle down. No other issues.

They don’t list one for a 7mm mag/Tang safety

Ok hopefully the experts can tell me the correct answer.
I went on numrich gun parts and they have some Ruger Replacement stocks available. But their description’s don’t say Tang safety. It does say Old model and or MKII model.

So I need a new stock for a Ruger 7mm tang safety. Would the old model be the correct one? I think they also listed
Long Action and Magnum Long action…..any help would be greatly appreciated. Here’s the link

I might want to know their return policy, but the way they list the MKII & old model, seems plain enough. Old model LA/Mag, go for it. Or, what about a nice refinish on the old one?

How old is the rifle in question? Knowing the S/N prefix might pin it down close enough, but Ruger sold tang safety 7 mags with 2 different barrel contours. The early ones being the largest. Worst case, the new stock's barrel channel might be a bit large for your gun, of it might need opened up a bit.

Not 100% on this but the only Circassian stock offered on a tang 77 that I can recall was on the .458. It's fat & has a big barrel channel. Would be a club on a 7 mag IMO.

So I should assume that long action and magnum long action both should fit? And OLD Model means tang safety?

I'm only aware of 2 tang 77 actions, long & short, as far as exterior sizing for stock fit.

Ask them what old model means, if, you can actually speak with someone. Keep us posted.

Yes, old model would be correct. If you look at all the parts listed for old model, there are parts there that only go with the tang model.

I know Hogue and B&C made composites and likely others. I have several LA factory Tanger stocks if you decide to go that way.

Have you called/emailed any of the carbon stock companies?? While their site might not list the inlet, I'd bet they have the specs to get you one.
