Mom threw potato peelings to my cousin's hogs, neglecting to remove the potato peeler first. Concrete feed floor. Peeler never showed up.

Before you slaughter give each 1 fifth of the cheapest vodka you can find. They will drink it straight down out of the bottle.

Are you feeding 100% scraps?
Never heard anyone claiming that produces great pork. Lotta folks feed scraps and old bread. Most, switch to a grain based food for several weeks finishing.

I took about 30 pumpkins to the swamp in November after Halloween last year thinking all the critters would eat. Nothing. Deer, hogs, squirrels, turkeys... nobody would eat.

Yeah............ Maybe we had uppity, spoiled pigs. Dunno. I thought they were just a nice batch of Berks.
We'd take down a row of sweet corn stalks with a machete when the row was picked out. Throw those in and the pigs would fight over them. So one day I decided to toss in some oversize zucchini in for a treat. They nosed them around and walked away. So I got in and sliced the zucchinis lengthwise figuring that'd turn them on to eating them. Nope. Those zucchinis got shoveled out with the turds next time we cleaned of the pen.

I always fed ours grain and shorts, plus any green corn stocks and plants from the garden. Guy down the road fed garbage and meat scraps. I tasted some of his pork once. Mine tasted a heck of a lot better.
Come fall when the garden was done, I put an electric wire around it and turned the pigs into it.Them rooting around for leftover stuff and their manure made a good garden the next year

Way back yonder when, a fellow in the community fed his hogs scraps from the school. His wife was head cook and he carried off the scraps. He had some of the finest hogs in the community, but he always finished them for a few weeks on corn and shorts, before slaughter.
