I picked up a Rem. 760 in .308. I know the .308 is a great hunting round, but I've been trying to decide whether to rebore to .338 Federal or not. I already have a Whelen, so that's why I'm not thinking too hard about the .358 Win.. I've read some great things about the .338 and I like large bore rounds. Thoughts anyone? TIA.

I'd go for it.

Do it and I’ll bet you have fun with it.

I’ve never regretted the JES treatment yet.

I have 2 760 .358 rebores. 1 old style, 1 new style. Both shootgreat. I also have a spare barrel I'm debating what to do with.... .

Absolutely do it. If 760's hadn't gone sky high, I'd be looking at doing one myself...

Been wanting to try an 338 Federal for awhile. I'm jealous. It seems it's about a perfect diameter, weight, and velocity window for a hunting tool. I'm a lefty so there's fewer choices for an 338 fed but I do have an BLR 308 and an Ruger scout 308 that could be candidates.

Good luck

There always has to be one.

I can't possibly see a place where a 338 Federal offers much over
A 180 out of a 308.
Make it a Partition, and it would be fine any where on this continent.

But, I'm boringly practical.

This is where I'm at. I have a 760 in 308 (2 actually) and was debating a 338F vs 358W, then asked myself what I was really gaining. For the time being I've talked myself out of it, but as far as the OP, it's your money. Have fun if it's what you want.

The chances they come, and the chances they go.
But the time. You don't get that back.

I'd say you hit it on the nail head. find out how it shoots, if good , develope a heavy bullet load win / win. never in today's world you gonna find 338 federal or 358 ammo as easy or inexpensive as 308...mb

9.3x308 or 375x308.

Chronographs, bore scopes and pattern boards have broke a lot of hearts.
