mm - I followed your advice and purchased a bottle of Kikkoman. The difference is amazing. I made stir-fry (pork steak that I grilled and then cut up. carrots, celery, garden green beans, snow peas, green onions, yellow onion, cabbage) using sauce that the wife made using Kikkoman. I also added more to my plated food. Thanks for the advice.

I'll also say there's a similar situation with commonly available Worcestershire sauces. Skip the Heinz and French's because Lea & Perrins is the one to get.

X2 on Kikkoman Naturally Brewed

And

Lea and Perrins W-sauce.

If you like steak sauce, try Lea and Perrins. Not talking W-sauce now,
They make an excellent steak sauce. But it's hard to find.

I've never had it but there's a fancy ($$) soy sauce made in the US that is fermented in bourbon barrels. The same guy is making Worcestershire sauce too.

You may be basing this on the fact that the soy in a couple of these is hydrolyzed & the L&P isn't. ?

But otherwise, Frenches is by far my fave, L&P second & if there's only Heinz I'll do without. And, I can taste the diff in some soy's.

We tried this when we were eating at a Japanese restaurant in Vegas a few years. Liked it so much we been buying it ever since.

I'm surprised you never borrowed that little bottle of Kikkomen from the local chinese restaurant.

You couldn't pay me to use French's OR Heinz.

I’m not sure I even knew anyone other than Lea & Perrins made Worcestershire sauce.

We always buy kikkoman but the sushi joint we frequent has some in a big glass wind bottle looking container that is flat out the best thing I’ve ever had. It’s like liquid crack.

San-J brand, Tamari Soy Sauce is authentic, made without wheat, and has been around since 1804. It is far better than the regular grocery store brands

I appreciate the tip. A grocery store near me carries it and I'll get some when my current bottle runs low.

From the San J website FAQ:

Quote
Where is your Tamari / Shoyu made?

San-J brews Tamari soy sauces in the USA. We blend it with Tamari made in Japan when necessary for Tamari (Black label), Reduced Sodium Tamari (White label), Tamari Lite 50% Less Sodium. Shoyu is made in Japan.
