LOL only on a site full of old dudes is 25 year old considered modern. I'm with you though, most stuff made in the last 20 years doesn't hold a candle. I thought some of the stuff Aaron Lewis made with Staind was good.
As we age, it gets much harder to spend time talking about music with your friends like we did in our teens. There still is some great music being made, but it's a bunch harder to not only find it, but keep your mind open enough to like it. Which is kinda funny but sucks at the same time.
I'm still after finding another album that hits me like Dark Side of the Moon or Led Zep 2. You'll notice I'm 20 years behind the curve on 90% of the schidt I just posted! LOL
I think this is one of those art reflects society things. Two dimensional cookie cutter songs that lack substance musically is what I hear mostly today. I think back on some of the old classic rock songs and it sounds like they put as much time into one song as an entire modern album.
I've never played but I love blues and rock guitar. I think back on those classic guitar tracks and most guitar components in songs today are pathetic in comparison. Just as random examples think back on typical Boston songs, something like Comfortably Numb, or all the instrument tracks in Bat Out of Hell.
Part of me thinks technology today is to blame for most of it. With modern computer programming, recording equipment etc it's a lot easier to make music today. Back in the day, think of all the time a band had to spend together collaborating, playing, brain storming, playing again, fighting, drinking, playing some more, hand writing lyrics and music, just to get ready to step into a recording studio. All that time, effort, emotions etc come through in the music.
