I'm going to rescope a pre64 FW in .308. Currently wearing a Balvar 8B which I'm not wild about. My other rifles wear Zeiss Conquests/Meopta MeoPro scopes in 1" configurations. Weight is a consideration here, not crazy about a 30mm offering but seems like the world is trending that direction. Seems hard to find a midrange to higher end scope in 1". Am I just not seeing the right offerings?

S&B Summit is the "highest end" 1" scope I know of. There are two on Ebay right now if you're interested.

I put a 30mm Leupold on a classic Win 70, felt very top heavy, would not repeat. I'd recommend something from the Leupold 3HD line.

The Trijicon Accupoint 3-9x40 and the Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40 both weigh about 13oz. Both work just fine. Amazon has the Burris for $109, the Triji for $605-$668 depending on the reticle. I have at least two of each. Take your pick.

I have a couple Meoptika 5, with one inch tube. Good glass for the money, but on the heavy side. I am thinking of getting another.

A used Bushnell 4200 4-16X40 would be my first choice. Glass is better than pay grade and turrets seem to respond correctly.

Find a gloss 3.5x10 Leupold. It would look good on it. There are a couple for sale now in the classifieds

S&B will make the Summit mentioned as well as a 1" 6x42 (and a couple of scopes) "On request". The Tract Toric 2-10x42 has been a very good 1" scope for me but it's color may not be what you're looking for on a pre-64.

The OP should know that, he's been here for a while. Maybe he's looking for something more expensive? Much more expensive. We are talking hunting rifle needing a good "hunting rifle" scope. What's laughable is the threads we have here, like how many of you actually regularly take a big game animal past 400 yards. Not a whole lot, but everyone thinks they need a NF or upper end scope to consistently make shots at 400 yards. Even though a good rifle set up with a Burris FFII 3-9x40 with ballistic plex reticle will get the job done easily at that range. I don't think a lot of guys actually shoot here, or they would know that. The old adage, "keep it simple", applies here because it doesn't get much simpler.
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Good points, but after years of trying to find something that “will do”, at the lowest price, now and then I’m enjoying buying some nicer stuff because well, it’s nicer, and usually has a feature or two that are useful, like the Triji lighted dot (or whatever). Good glass is pleasant to look through, and accurate, repeatable adjustments a real treat after suffering lesser stuff. Don’t need such stuff on everything, and I’m not springing for “Alpha” anything, just good solid quality like the Trijis, and not long ago a Tract Toric. Getting a lot of good use from a couple of SWFAs as well, priced nicely (and on sale!), and solid performers.

Go sit on the couch until someone asks about paper, staples, Sharpies or the best way to treat a paper cut. The Trijicon Accupoint 3-9x40 and the Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40 both weigh about 13oz. Not much chatter about these here on the Fire but Maven seems to have a decent scope in the 1" class. Their CRS.1 3-12x40 comes in at just over 14 ozs, Japan made and decent price. They do come on sale often and have seem them for around $370 when they are so not bad. And from what I have seen posted on some other forums appear to be a nice scope. https://mavenbuilt.com/collections/riflescopes/products/crs-1-3-12x40-sfp
