MACVSOG and 5th Group in Vietnam -in the 1960s-arranged for the manufacture of these knives, which roughly resemble a Randall All Purpose Fighting Knife (Model 1). These knives came with a black leather sheath, stacked leather-finger grooved- handles. drilled pommel with leather or parachute cord attached. Most blade lengths were 6 or 6.5 inches. There were two types, and both had dark blue black /semi-parkerized finish on carbon steel blades. The original SOG knife used brass pommel and hilt. The 5th SF Group versions were almost identical except aluminum hilt/pommel and they had the small Special Forces crest and 5th Special Forces Group(Abn) Vietnam-- engraved on the blade.
Should you know of one or either of these knives, please contact the OP.

I used to have one of the Reproductions that SOG had made by Seki in Japan. They bring big $$$ nowadays. Like this one: https://fitzwillies.com/sog-recon-bowie-seki-japan/

LtC Marriott I take it you did not find anyone to manufacture a current run of these.

Rare as hens teeth. Good Luck with your search Sir. A friend of mine passed away a couple of years ago. He was with the 5th Special Forces, 1st Special Forces Group 1965-1970. MACVSOG 1968-69. I asked his wife if she still had his knife from when he was with MACVSOG in Viet Nam. She told me that she gave it to a guy that came over to fix her water pump. She had no idea of the significance or value of the knife. She tried to recover it but was unsuccessful.
