I have a nephew and his wife, heavily into the outdoors, couldn’t afford to live in New York State.

Picked out Salt Lake sight unseen based on its proximity to wild places. Hit a gold mine of what they were looking for 😎 Took a 30% pay cut and still lives better/bigger house than they could in NY State.

Clean, safe, friendly.

I was expecting a moonscape like I recall around Green River

Couldn’t have been more wrong. IIRC this is Cottonwood Canyon, maybe 25 miles from Salt Lake City. There’s a friggin’ MOOSE just out of sight in the photo, Google says hunters harvest about 7,000 annually in Utah.

Surrounded by public lands, abundant off-road areas, fishing and hunting.

I've bowhunted the Book Cliffs for elk and mule deer and the Uinta's for mountain goat. Beautiful state, incredible wildlife. Spectacular scenery.

Nope: "Between 1958 and 2016,7,552 (6,287 bulls and 1,265 antlerless) moose were legally harvested in Utah"

Not nearly enough words to be a real Seafire post. Also missing the requisite 'Potlandia' mention.

Utah is beautiful and still has some wild places. Not too crowded, not too expensive.

Let's blast that all over the internet for the whole world to see.

My mother spent a ton of time exploring the west on her motorcycle(s). Utah was her favorite place of all. I had a friend move to SLC for work and lasted 2 years. She hated it but was mostly a "people and personality" thing vs the landscape. As a devout Catholic, she never felt welcome.

I'd like to go visit UT, seems gorgeous as much of the mountain west does but if I was to throw a dart as a place to live - I think I'd hope it hits Wyoming or Idaho.

If you have to go through Idaho on your way to UT, just keep going SE. UT's MUCH prettier, their game animals have MUCH bigger antlers and their fish are unquestionably BIGGER.

WY is windy. MT is cold. Colorado is saturated with Californians. AZ is hot. ID is just a bunch of potato farms. Not much in NV besides Las Vegas. NM has no economy.

Everyone should head to Texas.
