Chicago is currently sitting at about 393 homicides so far this year, and they've actually slowed down a bit over the summer:

Philadelphia is doing its best to catch up. With recent increases they've reached 338:

I am not sure a direct comparison is fair here, but I would enjoy seeing Philly win outright. It would at least quite any debate. But obviously on a per capita basis Philly is clearly superior. Chicago's number is 393/2.75MM population, so about 0.014% of its citizens have been murdered this year. Philly is 338/1.6MM for 0.02%. Dominating performance by the Philadephians.

The news is reporting the problem as "gun violence" but I think the video below better illustrates the root of the problem:


In any case, fingers crossed for Philadelphia here. I believe they can do it. They shot a guy who was in town for the funeral of a guy they shot, so they clearly have the heart and the teamwork to come out on top here.
