I have a Marlin XT-22 that I bought about a year+ ago.. Just shot it for the first time today.. The casings (5 total) have bulges and two were split! The chamber's crap. Checked the customer service page - and since it's a 'pre-Ruger' rifle Marlin and/or Ruger won't touch any warranty.. I.e., if it needs a new barrel it's on my dime..

Nice. Thanks, Marlin (and Remington)... mad

Redneck: Dang sorry to hear of the "glitch"!
The few Marlins I own are all reliable and accurate.
Could you maybe try some different ammo?
Be sure to wear your shooting glasses.
Let us know how this works out.

I'd still give customer service a call and explain the situation.

Maybe they do not have to honor any warranty, but sometimes they might do it anyways.

That sucks. You know a good smith to do the work?

laugh laugh Sorry, bud - but I didn't work with rimfires as far as barrels are concerned.

However, I did find the problem.. I was trying to use up a box of old ammo. Tried a different box of new stuff and the problem went away.. I'm gonna toss the rest of that old box..

Good deal. At least it was an easy fix. That is good..

Yep. A pard gave me a box of old Canuck ammo to shoot up, which I did in a Savage autoloader that had never stuttered once in its decades of abuse. That stuff behaved just like the OP's did. Into the garbage went the remainder.

Redneck: I am so happy your "problem" has been solved!
I had a hunch that it was the ammo.

I understand, but a bit surprised Ruger didn’t extend some type of courtesy

They are normally exceptional CS

I'm not surprised at all.

Ruger bought the name and the manufacturing rights to the Marlin firearms, they don't have any obligation to honor the warranties on firearms that they don't produce.

I wonder if Ruger acquired the existing parts inventory for the Marlins that were produced pre-Ruger? Probably not, 'cause outfits like CDNN and GPC usually buy that sort of stuff for pennies on the dollar. When Winchester/USRA went out of business, CDNN bought a lot of their inventory of firearms and loose stocks and have been selling them ever since 2006.

FWIW, I bought an XT-22VR on sale at Cabela's in 2015 for $142 and it is nearly as accurate as my Anschutz, Remington, and Winchester target rifles that each cost at least 4x more than what the Marlin cost. I did put it in a Boyds Pro Varmint laminated stock for an improved fit and for the aesthetics, but the accuracy didn't change.
