Going on a Mule deer hunt in early November this year (Montana). I need a Bipod for my Mauser 30-06 M12 rifle to shoot in prone position.
Coop If you are carrying any kind of daypack, you dont need a bipod. I respectfully disagree with this statement. Use of a pack to shoot over implies you will be shooting prone or very close to it. In the country may of us hunt, you simply won't have the opportunity to shoot prone except in very rare instances. Bob OK, but I was attempting to answer the OPs question, which was specifically about shooting prone. He's not hunting mule deer where you are hunting.Daypack makes a very good and easy rest for shooting prone on the prairie. Its not rocket surgery.

I have the Javelin bipod on my LR rifle. It also has a sling attach point on the base. You can carry it in your pack and attach if the set up allows but like others have said it is usually handier to just use your pack. Also have cradle for the tripod for sitting or standing which gets used more often IME.
I am continually astounded at how quickly people make up their minds on little evidence or none at all. Jack O'Connor

I carry a long (sitting/kneeling length) and a short (prone) Javelin. The pair weighs the same as a Harris and doesn’t have to be attached until you need it. The long goes on my pack opposite my rifle, the short on a “holster” on the hip-belt.

One thing that helps further steady the rifle with a bipod is a shorter set of sticks under the buttstock. Takes some additional time to set up though.

Looked at those... Seems like getting on things that aren't static would be slick. Maybe coyote calling? Lots of good information on this thread.

I decided to get a Stealthpod X bipod. I liked a lot of things about it, especially the way it can be used as trekking poles
