Okay, honestly, this is just mental masturbation at this point. As the gun has not even arrived yet. And I am only about a year into this 1911 adventure. I had Fusion build a 38 Super barrel for my Kimber 4 inch pro carry II. It works very nicely, but that and pushing a set of sights on and off the Kimber target II is the extent of my customization experience.

I recently purchased a 1977 series 70 Colt 1911 with a 22LR conversion on it. I can only assume at this point that the gun was originally a 45.

But I am already entertaining the idea that it would double nicely as a long slide 10mm.

Is the 10mm compatible with a 45 frame? Would I need to change the ejector?

Should I just take the gun to a good 'smith and let him pick the parts and build me a slide?

Or is there a dependable source for slide assemblies which would require only minor fitting?

I have not found such a source after a few hours of exercising the Google-fu.

Most useful general reference in that area is I suggest The Custom Government Model Pistol by Simpson, Layne Published by Wolfe Pub Co, 1992 ISBN 10: 1879356163ISBN 13: 9781879356160 which went through two editions. He found that conversions one step each way tended to work that is a 10mm conversion from a .45 tended to work. Dated but from a time of exploration and custom means custom not a poorly chosen sales term meaning high grade. Brownell's will sell you anything you need. For a while the hot tip was blems on clearance google 1911 slide blem/blemished and there are plenty of hits but the market has changed. Generally if Brownell's doesn't sell it you don't need it but Brownell's does require minimum sales figures to be listed so truly specialty items will come in, saturate the market and disappear from the Brownell's catalog.
