I could never shoot a 44 in Ruger s/action
Smith has more to hang on to...
Your best bet may be a $28 can of bear spray

I have put literally thousands and thousands of rounds through -2 Model 29s. People read too much and shoot too little. OP, how many Model 29s have you personally seen that have been shot to the point of being beyond repair? Go shoot your Smith and enjoy it. That is what they were made for. BTW, A tall Folgers can will hold 550 rounds. Fill one up and spend a weekend emptying it, shooting at targets at extended distances: Like!

You can get a lot of serious work done with just a 4" S&W & it will come with a good trigger. Plus you will be able to hit little tiny targets way out there in another zip code if you shoot up part of that coffee can of handloads like Mackay has. The target is out there if you look close. But the target isn't close. A lighter gun is ok only if you can shoot it, misses don't count. Myself, I like a heavy gun as long as it balances. I like both, S&W's & Ruger bisley's, just so they have good triggers & a narrow front sight. Now that I've had cataract surgery I can see those sights again, it's great.

Over sized grips for a SBH are easily made. I have few in a box here if anyone is interested.
As for shooting any firearm. That is why I bought them.

Jeesh…get the 29-2 and try to wear it out. Life is too short to worry about collector status, etc.
