saw this yesterday. Looks pretty cool to me.

If I had the Ruger pistol, I'd definitely want one.

Since I don't, it's still a nice development. It would be more attractive if ammo was under 50 cents a pop.

I’d prefer the PC9 based on ammo cost. A buddy has one and loves it.

Same here. Ammo cost/availabilty. Plus I'm already well stocked on Glock 9mm magazines.

Yep. The ammo price and availability has caused me to talk myself out of buying one of the pistols several times.
And I’ve heard that they’re a pain in the ass to reload for.

And of course for the cost, I can build a PSA AR Pistol in 6.5 Grendel for a lot less money. For which I’ve procrastinated way too long. 😬

That being said, it would be a fun little varmint carbine for the Ranch truck.

Looks like a neat gun. Like you said, if I had a Ruger pistol and a pallet of ammo I’d be a buyer.

Yep. I bought one of the pistols when ammo was still $20-$25 a box. Next thing I know, the stuff is $45 a box. Not near as fun at that price...

I'd rather pull/replace bullets from .22 Magnums.

If ammo ever becomes widely available again (and I have faith that it will) I think the 5.7 could become the most popular chambering of all time.

Subsonic AP round. I see the penetration, which is impressive for subsonic. And it could indeed kill someone. But pretty sure if you shoot someone wearing that body armor with that round the shootee is going to be really mad for quite a while. There’s very little penetration beyond the armor. And very little damage to the clay. I’ve seen a number of animals shot with a .22 WMR die without a quiver including a couple of deer.

edit: Even without the armor I don’t see an AP subsonic round doing a lot more than penetrating. Lots of FMJ does that. And again, a .22 WMR flat point might show some impressive nonarmor penetration as well.

I bought a Ruger pistol, I like it, yes ammo is pricey. But not much more than larger 45 44 stuff. I'd be interested if the carbine was closer price to the pistol.

Anybody have success reloading the brass? I understand the lacquer coating is important.

Here's a comparison of 5.7 vs 22WMR, both from 16" barrels. Interesting results.

I'm kind of underimpressed with that 5.7. I figured the 5.7 had more a$$ than that from a carbine.

Back when I worked in the Wholesale Firearms Industry, we were the biggest FN dealer in the Nation.
Once a year, they’d bring a trailer full of guns and a trailer full of ammo for a day of unlimited shooting of all their guns, including all of their full auto stuff.

I was not impressed at all with the full auto version of the PS-90 Carbine in 5.7.

I did my best to shoot up all of their .308 ammo in their belt fed guns. 🤠

I've reloaded a thousand or so rounds for someone when the round first came out... once you get the hang of it, its no different than any other cartridge.

The 40 grain V Max and the 35 grain Horandy NTX are two very devastating rounds when loaded in that chambering...

at the same time, anyone can load a 221, 222 and 223 to the same velocity, and would be a serious short range deer round...

I'm not sure why this cartridge gets so much press for its "defensive" capabilities, yet is completely ignored for its small game/varmint potential. Seems like it would have been a surefire hit in a small, light bolt action (such as the Ruger 77/22). At least when ammo was cheap it certainly would have made sense. And the damn stuff is way easier to find than the .22 Hornet.

But that's just me, and since when have I ever made sense.....

What didn't you like about it?
The ones I shot were all pretty accurate. IIRC, they all could put a 3 round burst into about an eyeball at 15 or 20 yards.

Hated the ergonomics and the overall feel of the gun.
The only good thing was being able to control the recoil in automatic mode.

Never been a fan of bull pup type rifles.

Give me an M4 Carbine and a real caliber any time over any other rifle designed for defense. YMMV.

I have never handled a PS-90, but the optic height over bore looks a little excessive.

Best I can describe it is very “unwieldy”.

Reminds me up every bull pup I’ve ever handled.

If I was buying a 5.7 Carbine, it would be the Ruger, or even an AR-15 upper.

I really liked it for shooting offhand. It gives you a very upright, erect head position. No bending the neck sideways or forward. I'd say the ergonomics are very good, but I never shot one prone. May very well cause a neck ache that way.

AND you can get really High Cap magazines.

It seems kinda niche-y. I agree with the earlier comment about it sounding more like a good varmint round. I prefer my PCC9 loaded with 147 +P hard cast as an all-arounder for short range.

I own one with the as-intended short barrel (10.5" I think) and have gone through almost every iteration of mount and optic available and the height over bore is pretty extreme. In terms of its size there isn't really anything else that small (that is still shoulder-fired) and tho I've put a few thousand rounds through my PS90 I still have my doubts. It feels like a great varmint round.

Out of a 10.5" barrel the 5.7 (regardless of the bullet weight used) barely moves a very light steel plate at 100 yards and leaves very little mark on the paint. Seems about comparable to a 17 HMR in that regard. I've been pressed into using the 17 hmr on hogs at those ranges, it kills fine on neck shots. But if some real need arose, I would grab a 9mm carbine over the PS90 and I'd take a 5.56 over both.

As carbines go it looks cool, but following links from T&T's video left me in awe of the keltec .22 magnum's performance.

As I get older, I find myself agreeing more and more with Stick’s opine “bullets matter more than headstamps.”

I’d like to see how a level IIIa does against that 9mm load.

If ammo were reasonably cheap that cartridge would make for a cool little bolt gun.

As far as tactical type guns go a Ruger doesn’t do anything for me when the FN P90/Ps90 has all of the military linage.
