been thinking about ditching my cross bow and going back to a compound bow-i have a line on a mathews conquest pro, but that thing is at least 20 years old-looks to be in great shape, but still 20 years is 20 years. I hunted about 7 years with a similar set up but drifted to the cross bow, but it just isn't the same. anyway, if not this one, then what would you suggest for someone coming back into the compound bow world?

The conquest pro was an excellent bow in it’s day. Bows have advanced a lot in 20 years. I would set a budget and head to a pro shop. Shoot a few and buy the one that feels best to you.

I know the feeling...hunting Deer with a crossbow isn't much different than with a firearm in the thick woods here in the Northeast. If you can see one at 35-45 yards or even longer with a crossbow, it's pretty much a done deal, but the excitement is just getting started with a compound or recurve. Although the Conquest is an older bow, it will still get the job done and won't cost much. If you get back into it you can always buy a newer bow if you'd like.

I have an older Mathews Conquest though not the pro. Was always a forgiving, sweet shooting bow. I like the longer axle to axle length and higher brace height than today's bows. I didn't archery hunt for a few years and 2 years ago had a new string and QAD drop away rest put on it. Still shoots really nice! I do know today's compounds are smooth, fast, and accurate. I only shot it a few times after the rehab and ended buying an Excalibur crossbow. If that Conquest is priced right buy it and go hunt!

I appreciate the replies-I think I am going to be patient and just roll with the cross bow one more year then start sniffing around for a compound bow early next year

This is excellent advice.

How much can a 20 year old compound bow be worth? I purchased a new V3 last year and it's light years ahead of my Z7 that was 10 or 12 years old. Most pro shops probably have something better than anything 20 years old.

You're gonna see a huge difference in 10 years of advancement with Mathews bows.

Good luck and shoot straight y'all
