I've had some luck on here in the past and perhaps can find something again. A good family friend of ours is looking to make a trip over next year, so plenty of time to find something. He is wanting something that he could possibly take on a Brown Bear hunt down the line. I am quite partial to the Dakota 76 but this will likely be a first and last trip over to Africa for him (of course, we all know there is a bug over there that bites harder than a tsetse fly and will make him want to go back), and the Dakota would become a safe queen.

Again, plenty of time and if someone has something sitting in the safe and will never go back to The Dark Continent, I have a good home for it.

Thanks!

You likely will get more interest if you post in the classifieds.

I saw that one and already forwarded it. Thank you though. Nice rifle.

A PH friend recommended the Blaser. We may look into those.

BB, I’ve had better luck with niche purchases on specific forums. The Lefty Forum has made my dad a happy man a couple of times. This exact forum helped me find a LH Dakota 76 when we were less than a month out from Tanzania and he threw in the towel getting his Heym to shoot well. Great people on here!

Not that I'm a Safari/Dark Continent expert, but if you can broaden your requirements a bit (caliber/blued chrome moly/walnut), a CZ550 safari or an M70 could be had for considerably less dinero, and would be a good choice as well, as I'm sure you know.

Or a Hawkeye Alaskan 416 Ruger. Same performance much more affordable, compact and lighter. Probably easier to find.

Blaser doesn't make a stainless-colored barrel that I'm aware of, but they're Nitrided, which should be fine.

.416 Rem may be easier to find than the Rigby.

Brass, dies, etc. should also be easier to find.

Critters won't know the difference.

We're set on a Rigby. If we were looking for a Rem, there are some nice Jarrett rifles out there and we are quite partial to them. Thanks though!

Lots of choices on Gunsamerica, but sadly no stainless. And doubtful you would want to take a $13k or $22k walnut rifle on a brown bear hunt

Does it have to be stainless? You might be surprised what can happen to a stainless rifle in Coastal Alaska…

Electrolysis nickel or hard chrome on a CZ 550 in 416 Rigby could provide the necessary corrosion resistance on a reasonable cost CRF platform.

I'd research finishes such as Robar NP3 for example, looking for finishes that won't affect tolerances and function.

He ended up negotiating on that estate sale stainless Dakota 76. It’s being shipped now. Appreciate everyone’s help and insight. He got a great deal on it. Now where to find some 400 grain Barnes TSX loads…
