Does anyone else appreciate large Pike? Hell, I don't mind catching 4 lb Pike on a medium spinning rig and 6 lb test. They make for great entertainment between catching smallmouth. Just as the ice is really starting to break up on the Wisconsin and Chippewa Rivers I'll fish dead smelt in the feeder streams for pre-spawn fish. Last year one 27 lbs is the biggest I've caught.

Unfortunately, we ain't got no pike out here in Washington. But I do love to fish for them whenever I am visiting family in Minnesota!

Waders, I wish I could take you up on your fishing trip. Its been twenty years since I fished the Columbia. But this year I'll be concentrating on smallmouth, pike and musky.

How are those pike and smallmouths coming along? Pike and walleye season opened last tuesday, but nothing yet, and it is raining today. I'll be working overtime till the weekend, and won't have another crack till then.

Anybody going fishing over Memorial Day Weekend? I am going to fish steelhead on the Cowlitz on Sunday and depending on how that goes, I will either do it again on Monday, or go for sturgeon on the Columbia. Here fishy, fishy, fishy!!

I was fishing at a reservoir next to camp last night, but nothing but small perch. The weather has been terrible for a week, and is supposed to stay that way till Tuesday. If it is decent out, I'll try again tomorrow.

I ripped some lips today on Lake Michigan. Ended up with five King Salmon and three Steelhead. Nothing big, but spring Kings, Coho, and Steelhead make for great eating.
The perch are starting to hit in decent numbers if you can find them. Most guys limit out in a short time if they can anchor over a school of them.
Keeb

My dead bait fishing for pike around ice out was a wash. Only a 12 pounder and 4 smaller fish for 20 hours on the water. Many of the larger rivers in Wisconsin are open year 'round. Our inland waters season opened May 5. Currently, after a week of rain, the water is high and cold. So far some pike and walleye, not much size, but good eating (can't eat too many of them, DNR says they're full of PCBs and mercury). Musky season is on and I have yet to go yet. Gotta give 'er hell in June! Good luck all!
